Ronjon Kit License plate

I'm having Ronjon Kit being preped and installed at the shop now.... I'm trying to find some idea about front license plate.

I know I wish I can leave the license plate out, but I don't really want to deal with California police

for anyone who has RJ kit:
-what did you do with the license plate?
-I can just tell the shop to put it like stock bumper, which includes drilling screw hole on it,... it hurts to see hole on the RJ kit, but what can I do... other than that, any other solution?

though I hate the look, not having front license plate on is not an option, don't want to attract any police attention... so any advice anyone..?

When I get back from work today, I'll take some pics of mine and share them with you. I've been getting nice complements about how the plate looks without any holes on the bumper. I've been getting many tickets for no plate and front tinted windows, but there was NO way I would make holes into RJ's bumper. So, I found a nice solution of course with some ideas from Ron Jon.

Police don't check that hard in Cali unless you live in Huntington Beach lol

I've had no front plate for 2 years here in SD, the only $10 fix it I got was one in HB after a meet..........

i have lived in both california, and now dallas, and have not had any issues not having a front plate....now if i were 20 years old with a noisy pipe and a loud stereo, then yes i would make sure i had the front plate...its just an excuse to pull you over....

front plate on your visor isnt going to help you out, you might as well take that down....

Hmmm.. I like the way you think! I am a very modest driver, so I could probably get away with no plate too. It's just a fix-it ticket, isn't it? I'd love to not have the plate when I install the Aspec kit.

In Cali its a $10 fix-it, so I will continue to not have a front plate. I purposly broke my front plate holder and keep in it my trunk, if I get any gruff I show the cop and tell him someone backed into me and I'm waiting on the replacement to come into the dealer

i would totally start out with no plate install, move on from there....if the no front plate gets to be an issue, then go to the install for the plate...

if you get pulled over, just tell them you just had your car repaired and the license plate bracket was on back order and it should be in anytime...

Thanks for the reply guys

I know it hurts to drill a hole on RJ... but I figure if I just do it one time, and the hole is being covered by the license plate anyway you won't really see it, right. I'll reconsider for not putting plate... but for now, I'm not really fond of that idea. I don't want to be paranoid all the time when I see police around....

tihomirbg: if you can send me the picture as soon as you can, that would be awesome. Either I follow your idea, or I'll just tell the shop to drill hole on in and mount it.... of course unless there's other idea ...

but if there's no other solution, I'm kindda have to. I really have to put the license plate in. Don't want to risk it with Cali police anymore.

Front Tag

Could you float your front tag using molding tape? No holes, might be a nice look.

wow.. very creative.... thanks for the picture..

Did you do that yourself? Care to share where you get the L bracket? home depot? what is the size? so I'm guessing you (or whoever install it) have to drill hole underneath the RJ kit, right?

hmm... I've never drill hole on polyutherene... do I use the same drill bit... sorry for all the noob question... Honestly I'm kindda scared drilling hole anywhere on RJ kit...

Originally, I was just gonna tell the shop to drill hole in the front for me.... I can't bear to do it myself.

Actually, if I plan to leave the license plate on all the time, I really don't see any advantage of doing "L" bracket thing compare to regular drill hole in the front. Honestly, "regular drill hole in the front" looks bit cleaner (looks more centered).
The advantage of doing that (that I can think of):
-is the feeling of "not having holes" on the front of the kit, but underneath.
-if plan to (occasionally) not having plate, you won't see any hole. But I plan to have it on all the time... it hurts the look, but I'm too paranoid not to have it.

Confused, confused....... any input?

Well,

I did it my self. I got the L brackets from Home Depo. Just ask for L brackets and they will show you bunch to choose from. Yes, there are total of 4 holes 2 on each bracket. I used regular drill.
I did it that way because if I decide to sell the car (which by looking at the 4Gen TL I would never buy it) I'll take the plate off because that way it looks much cleaner than with the plate on and the holes will be underneath and you will never see them unless you get under the car.

I hope this helps you to make the decision.

Need your opinion guys:

(Please don't get me wrong tihomirbg... I really like ur creativity... and really appreciate ur help but I just want more opinion....)

Let say if I never take the plate off... which one looks better....

This is what I think:

-with "L" bracket: advantage is there is no hole on the front, but there is holes underneath
-regular bolt to front: advantage: I think it looks nicer, but: there will be hole on it if I take of the plate

that's taken from RonJon site.... Please advise everyone....

Which one looks better (assuming I will decide to put the license plate forever): regular bolt-on bracket or "tihomirbg L bracket" idea

I did both the L bracket and then I didnt like how it wasn't centered, then I switched to just drilling into the bumper... then I said F this all, since my car is in the shop getting repainted I told him to take the plate off and fill the holes I'm just gonna drive with no front plate.

Sometimes havingn no front plate can save you from getting a speeding ticket or some other moving violation, the cop can be nice and just cut you a break on the moving violation and just give you a ticket for the plate or tints or some other non moving violation. I mean lets face it, if he wants to pull you over, its not the front plate thats going to be the reason.

Just go plateless, I live in NY so they are more strict here.

The front grill is the original one that RJ send me with the kit and it is painted black. About the shiny thing, it was RJ's idea and it is really simple. Go to any car store and buy one of those door moldings. Cut the edges nice and neat and here you go. I hope the double side tape holds good enough if not I have plenty to replace it with.
