Road rage against TL.

. This morning my first encounter with a serious road rager. I was on my way to school in the morning around 7 AM. I got on my road as usual and I pass by the middle school and this Honda Pilot blew the stop sign and came out in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes. I did not honk or anything because its the morning and people have places to go in a hurry, etc.

The Honda Pilot then proceeded to drive 30MPH in a 45MPH zone. I kept my distance and did not even flash my hi-beams. Behind me a line of cars was building up but I couldn't do anything I was going to keep my distance. We were approaching a light and it was green the Honda Pilot proceeded to brake for no reason and then completley slow down. The light turned yellow and the guy stopped . Once again I did NOTHING. I was already keeping my distance and slowed down to a complete stop.

This light is a long light. Takes 2-3 min even in the morning. I mounted my phone on my windshield and turn the camera on. I just started recording my "drives" because I encounter many idiots on a daily basis and thought it would be a good idea to do this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD4oN07jYyY

Light turns green I am keeping my distance. Honda signals to make a right and I am making that right because thats the road I use to get on the taconic state parkway.

I am still keeping my distance and he is doing 45mph in a 30mph zone and I am doing 30mph. He suddenly slams on the brake and slowly starts making a right turn without signalling. I had enough of this fool and honked at him to express my displeasure. To my surprise this guy swings right back onto the road and starts tailgating me.

I speed up to 60mph and hope he just goes away. The taconic state parkway is coming up so I slow down to make a right turn. A car is already waiting to make a right. As soon I start to turn BAM the asshole throws a bottle at my car and starts honking. I slam on my brakes and start honking at him and he starts inching forward. I am about to get out of my car to confront this idiot when some oblivious idiot that is on the TSP in the right lane almost hits me. Its too risky for me to get out so I quickly put the TL in D and put the pedal to medal. The honda is STILL following me. I slammed on my brakes (Not a smart move but I am pissed) and my camera fell off. He followed me to my exit.

On the way home. I use the same route. I saw him coming towards me and on purpose he swerved into my lane HEAD ON (WTF is this guy trying to do? Play chicken?) almost made me crash in a ditch.

The water bottle did not leave any damage or anything but still I am sure throwing a object out of your car at someones car is a crime.

I can't wait to see this guy tomorrow. I know where he lives and know what he drives. I am going to be ready.

What are your guys reaction against this? Was I wrong for honking at him??? Should I let it go??

you should keep a bat in your car in case he gets out of his car. Then you have a reason to beat the crap out of him, self defense

Cant edit post. Here is video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD4oN07jYyY

CLIFFS.

CLIFFS-
On the way to school, honda pilot blows through stop sign at a school and gets right in front of me. Proceeds to drive 30MPH in a 45MPH zone. I keep my distance NO HONKING NO FLASHING BEAMS NOTHING.

Approaches GREEN light and starts to stop for no reason...light turns RED then I bring out the camera.

Honda makes right turn and I use the same way to get to taconic state parkway....honda slam on brake and starts slowly turning without signaling. Me angry finally enough honk at honda.

Honda starts tailgating me and following me. At taconoic Honda throws bottle at my car and starts honking. Me angry tries to get out but moron on taconic almost hits me. I decide to just get away from this fool. Honda is STILL following me. So I brake check him(Camera falls) and take my exit.

On the way HOME I am using same route and this Honda is coming towards me and swerves into my lane (PLAYING CHICKEN WTF?)...I almost crash into ditch.

Now what should I do? Let it go or do something?

Don't wanna sound like a parent or anything, but I would go the simple route of finding out where he lives, getting his license plate info and call the cops. It is most certainly illegal to throw something out of your car at another car.

Whether he gets in trouble or not will still make him think twice about messing with you again.

Of course he could deny everything if the cops do approach him, but he would still have a confrontation with the cops.

Since when has that mattered? I'm sure there are a lot of people carrying firearms illegally in NY. But we are allowed to carry guns with a permit and the county where I live in upstate NY issues concealed carry permits, too.

Oh and when he tried to play chicken with you I would have stayed in the lane, but that is just me.

This guy has serious issues if he was still acting aggressively so much later in the day by veering into your lane.

My profile:

1. He's not exactly stable.

2. He's a pussy.

3. He's probably not carrying legally due to number one.

Tread lightly. He'll be no more rational tomorrow. You should have dragged him out of his car and beaten him when he threw the bottle.

record all your driving encounters. (probably need to keep it on since you dont know when you'll see the guy). Mount a rear facing camera too.

Gather evidence, like the time he tried playing chicken...record that shiz.

Show it to the police. If he follows you to harass you just call 911.

As far as throwing an object from your car at someone else's goes, it's definitely prosecutable here in Virginia. If you do a Google search for "McMissile case" you'll probably find the well-publicized incident where a woman threw a cupful of ice at another car on I-95. She was prosecuted, I believe for reckless endangerment (I may be wrong, I didn't do a search while typing this post). It got a lot of publicity in the DC area.

I'd say if you see him again soon, ignore him and see whether he goes after you.

Leave him be. Avoid encounters if you can.

If you can't, record what's going on to the best of your ability and report to the local PD that you're being harrassed and threatened on the road. Insist on filing a report.

The guy has issues and is driving a 2 1/4 ton piece of iron. Let it go.

^^^Yeah, set that fool up and turn him over to the cops...IMO, that's worse then putting a beat down on someone who might be "packing" because you might not be the only one he's trippin off of. Sure the beat down might feel better, but a picture of him on a punching bag would suffice.

+.1 I would record what you can, hopefully catch him blatantly road raging and call the cops, get him busted. No point in turning your daily commute to work into a life changing event over an A-hole, it’s a coin flip as to how street justice would prevail should you be considering that route as many of the ‘e-thugs’ on the forum are suggesting.

Even if you did give the driver a beat down or damage his car, is it worth risking going to jail over, ruining your car, sacrificing your future, potentially getting killed, etc, etc. There are a million ways that confrontation could go all of them are not good. Be objective about what you would like to accomplish which is getting to work without being harassed by someone with obvious issues, take care of it the correct way and likely the person who road raged you will be dealt with accordingly from the law.

I'm a big fan of pepper spray as a non-lethal means of dealing with aggressive people. It's legal in New York but there may be some restrictions.

Just be careful in what decision you make, try to remember bullets kinda hurt.

Without seeing what happened prior to this event, I can't say you're in the clear for not instigating. That is no justification for his actions, but without knowledge of unbiased preceding actions, this is a one-sided fight.

Just sayin'.

You seem to attract a lot of trouble.

Call your local non-emergency police number or a local police department and talk to an officer and file a report. Tell them you are worried that this person may endager you again as he has thrown an object at you from his car and tried to run you off the road.

If anything, the bozo will get a ticket for littering for throwing the water bottle at you but it's always good to get everything documented and show the officer that video.

This ^ +1. Reach out to the police and see if they will/can be on you route in the AM to witness what may happen tomorrow. Unmarked cruiser would be helpful. Barring this video is key.

Not sure who was laying on the horn at the end of the video but I think thats more of a hazard than the bottle being thrown at your car. You seemed to keep a safe distance, which is good. I'd just let it go. I'm willing to bet the guy either has issues (well, either way, he does) or he's a new driver who thinks he owns the road. That kind of stuff really grinds my gears.

Don't try to do anything else to spite the guy- what are you going to get out of it?

And FWIW, I usually need to wash my windshield when someone is riding my butt for a while...usually works better than speeding up.

If this ever happens again, just call the police, give them his vehicle info and STAY IN THE CAR! Never, never get out to confront someone. Just asking for trouble. Even if he is taking a bat to your car while your in it, lock the doors and drive away. Call the cops asap.

Also dont speed to get away. That's the best way to get yourself killed or really hurt someone else. You might be distracted and someone pulls out in front of you... You were cooking on those roads and around blind turns and hills. Not a good idea.

I'm sorry that happened to you, it sucks, but you have to just let him do what he's gonna do and concentrate on keeping yourself safe. Turn up the radio and sing along if you have to so you can ignore him. If he does strike your car, either with his or another object you've got a solid case in court. Anything else can be seen as reckless driving and a good lawyer might be able to use that.

This guy also seems to know you as a frequent traveler of that route since he was looking for you going the other way.

I'd take the avoidance suggestion myself. If you did get the police involved and he is prosecuted, it won't be multiple life sentences and he'll likely be even more determined to get revenge.

I know it's not the macho thing to do but find another route to school.

I don't understand why you honked at him.......? It looks like he stopped at a stop sign when you flew by him (running the stop sign) and honked at him. That would piss me off too. and who cares if he was driving 45 in a 30? is that really a reason to get mad at him?

I was actually behind him for a long time. If you read the original post you would see. First he RAN the stop sign to get in front of me and was driving 30 in a 45. Like I said I did NOT honk or even flash my beams. At a green light he slowed down and was stopping for no reason and when the light turned yellow he stopped. Once again I did NOTHING no honking no flashing hibeams.

When we turned onto that road we were both doing 40 and he just came to a stop and started turning slowly into the neighborhood. By that time I was ticked off and I honked at him. And that was not a stop sign for us thats a stop sign for a side road that no one ever uses.

Second time he honks first after throwing the bottle and then I started honking.

I found my old phone that has a decent camera I will mount that on the rear windshield.
