Ringers

I'm sure this belongs in the off topic forum, but hey...

Ever wonder how many "ringers" are on this site? By that I mean, how many posters work for BMW or Infiniti or Lexus and are on here for the sole purpose of exaggerating a problem or bringing up a problem that very few others do? I know I'm always skeptical about reading consumer reviews on Amazon.com. Particularly when the reviewer doesn't like the product and then launches into a *detailed* explanation of a rival product.

Can anyone think of a "Take the wallet off the next guy or you're not one of us" test?

Interesting.

I've often thought that might be the case. Also, many people who could never own a TL but just want to stir up things a little.

i don't think bmw, lexus or any company would be foolish enough to employ such tactics. if they get caught posting these false allegations the penalities are far more severe than the benefits. they are taking a huge risk in doing this and in my opinion it would not really accomplish much. if you run a huge multi-billion dollar company you would not risk such immature strategies to deface a competitor's product.

Before I bought my TL, I had narrowed my decision to the Lexus ES 330 or the TL. I talked with several Lexus salesmen and Acura salesmen, and none bad-mouthed the competition. Nothing turns me off faster than a salesman bad-mouthing the competition.

I didn't mean that I thought that the other companies hired people to do this. I missed that part in the original post. I meant that some owners of other makes might post here just for a little fun or to stir things up.

I have to admit I bought the 04 TL *in spite of* my Acura dealer experience.

My salesguy started ripping the competition left and right. G35, I can understand I suppose () but a BMW 330ci (which I almost bought)?!!

Come on... bang for buck (i.e features) the TL has the 330ci beat but if I based my decision on pure driving experience, I wouldn't be on these forums right now.

He actually put the 330ci on par with a Camry and an S60. ??!!

Now dat just do be ignant...

i think dealers should try to sell you the car instead of telling you what not to get and pointing out the other cars flaws. most the time an educated consumer who does research on the car knows so much more than the dealer about the car they are interested in.

I would think it would be pretty stupid of the Sales person not to know his direct compitition. I know more about Lexus, BMW, Infiniti and Mercedes than I care to. Its all part of the business. A good sales person will never bad mouth the compitition.. However he will point out a few shortcomings the other guys may have when it comes to the car he's selling. :toothless

Peace!

My take is the salesman should stick t pointing out the good points of a car. If he's selling a good car, he'll have more than enough to talk about.

Now if I open the door for him (i.e. The G35 is really nice with RWD and 280HP), then it's fair game for him as well (i.e. Yes but the TL is FWD which you might like better in the winter.)

Anyway, this is the kind of treatment I got at Lexus and BMW when I was still looking. Acura dealership was a lot worse. Lucky for Acura, the car sells itself.
