Review on Duralast Cmax brakes on Type S

Hey guys just wanted to write a short review for any people interested in duralast cmax brakes you can pick up at autozone. i have a 2007 acura tl type s auto with 118,000 miles on it so far no major problems just basic maintence. i installed these brakes about 2 months ago for around 60 bucks. i used crc brake quiet spray which you can also get at autozone. okay now down to the meat of the subject. iam very impressed with these brakes there is far less brake dust then originals and they are very quiet. brake performance is good but does lack the initial bite the originals had and begin to lose performance after frequent hard stops from 60mph. after doing some sprinted driving at the bear mountain( here in upstate ny) they where fine for that little 5-6 miles stretch but after that big performance dip and shaking. But i have to say for the everyday driver that likes to push his car once in a while there is no brakes in opinion that give this kind of bang for its buck. they also have great life. i drive around 60 miles a day mixed highway/city and still don't notice a decease in life. hope this helps out some who don't wanna shell out alot of money for originals brembos.

Thank you for your detailed review. It sounds like a pretty negative review though on the whole.

Yep, great pads. Like OP stated, a little less bite, but much less dust.

@hleapha
for everyday driving awsome pads, but you right for aggressive driving better to gp brembo or hawk pads. however the way i drive these are great for me and def will get them again. also since they have life time warrenty i can just exchange them when i need new ones for free big bonus.

I have bad experience with auto-zone, since there are morons who work there. They either give me two Lefts or wrong model pads. That is why I wont trust there product if they cant hire people who know about cars. I find it easyer to plan ahead and order online =)

I have these pads too.. they are perfect for everyday driving but i definitely would not recommend them if you plan on taking your car to the track.

I have made the duralasts smoke up a few times but I was just testing the limits of my brakes when I had my rotors/brake fluid/pads replaced. I would definitely recommend them to anybody looking for an alternative to the OEM pads.

ditto everyone else, great pad for a DD. Been very satisfied with my set. after 10k or so miles on them they will start dusting more than when new...but still far less than brembos.

and then there's the lifetime warranty..again another reason why they're perfect for the DD.

I have them all the way around on my Type S and I can't tell any difference in the braking but I can tell a big difference in the decrease in dusting and they are extremely quite.

Why teh fuck is this in the tech folder?

Shaking is usually fluid, but based on your bf change and description.. you should probably bed in the pads if you haven't to even out the surface on the rotor. If you experience fade, it's usually pad.

The pads are great and all I've heard is good things from
Oem brembo owners

I have a 5AT and therefore non brembo brakes. I out the cmax's on only because I wante less brake dust. I was disappointed; it was almost the same amount of dust as factory pads

Just my experience. I'm going to take them of and try to get a refund/new replacements when I get the brakemotive pads & rotors

any suggestions for pads that still retain that "initial bite" but also produce less brake dust?

I like project-mu Type-NS. Those were the only pads I found for my G that seemed to maintain or exceed initial bite without excessively dusting like the OEM pads..

So I put them on our TL after I was disappointed in the Akebono pads I was running for a while, that had good initial bite, but faded quickly.

Hawks are probably good, but the last set of Hawks I had performed terribly when cold. (But were awesome when warmed up)

The Project-Mu Type-NS I've been really happy with. Great initial-bite, and didn't lose any bite to fading... When I was burnishing in my rotors, I did Ten 50-5 panic stops in a row (as outlined by the instructions for my rotors), and the pads didn't lose any bite. They smelled like shit, but they still stopped on a dime ..

thanks for the suggestion but i was looking for something within the same price range as Cmax gold pads. ~150 bucks is pretty steep but i might actually end up trying them if there arnt any alternatives. that "initial bite" is a must have for me but at the same time i want to reduce the brake dust as much as i can.

I liked the initial bite of the Akebono ProACT, and they didn't dust very much. Maybe you'll like the Akebono Street Performance Pads. I haven't used them, but according to the description, they are designed to have exceptional initial-bite while having better fade resistance than the ProACT. (Only thing I didn't like about ProACT was the fade) And it still says low-dust...

I found the Akebono Street Performance Pads for the TL-S for $77 from here. (Note: I have never bought brakes from that store, or tried that particular pad) Tirerack sells Akebono too, but you may have to call them to get the StreetPerformance version, as I don't see them listing a cross-reference for the TL for that particular pad.

FWIW, I only paid $125 for the project-mu.

i've read that people seem to have positive feed back with the stoptech brakes with blank rotors or slotted/drilled

below is the link to the package info,
