"rev down stick"

On my 04, TL, 6 speed when I depress the clutch (like stopping at a stoplight) the tach shows the engine "revving down" normally but sometimes, about 50% of the time, the tach sticks at around 2000 for two seconds befor its decrease to idle. The dealer says this is normal? I've owned other manual tran high end cars and this was never "normal," anyone have any ideas?????

That's the ECU keeping your engine at the proper shift point. It's a feature on the TL that comes with the electronic throttle control. If you disengage a gear, the ECU will basically match the engine speed to the road speed in the next higher gear. That is, unless it tricked me into thinking it did...

yeah, kinda weird at first. It rev-matches the gear on upshifts. wind out second to around 6000, depress clutch and shift to third while still depressing clutch. pretty neat. makes super smooth shifting a breeze.

Just wish it did it for downshifts as well. now that would be a hoot!

Kind of off topic, but... when you say you are 'revving' the engine, you are talking about the RPMs... and the 'R' in RPMs stands for Revolutions... so when you 'rev' your engine... what are you doing? Revolutionizing it? :toothless

It's called rev matching and it's a feature on 6MTs. When upshifting hold down clutch for a sec more than usual and it'll stabilize at exactly where you can shift up seemlessly. You'll be amazed to how smoothly you shifted.

Yeah and good upshifing says one should let out the clutch once the RPMs have dropped to the appropriate speed. that way you don't load the transmission/clutch so hard and shift your weight so drasticlally.

still a neat "feature"
