A respectable DVD-A, finally!

Just got my copy of 3 Doors Down: Away From the Sun in the mail today. I was encouraged by the track that they put on the sample DVD-A that comes with the TL. I have to say I'm pretty impressed. The vocals and guitar blow it away! I know we've all had complaints about bad mixes and the such, but if you're even remotely a 3DD fan, I'd suggest picking this CD up. Got my at DVDempire.com. I just wish there were more good DVD-A's like this one out there.

I really wish there was a sticky with a list of DVD-As that rock and DVD-As that suck (probably a lot longer list).

Of course this is an Acura forum, not music forum. Still, it helps to know how they sound in the TL versus somebodies $10,000 home set up.

There needs to be more COMPILATION and BEST OF DVD-As!

If I am going to spend money on one, I would like it to have more than one or two songs I like on it!

For you Jackson Browne fans, I was told thru an e-mail that he is mixing a DVD-A for release in the next two months. I just bought "Chicago II" and "The Last Waltz" by The Band to add to my collection (five disc slots are now filled) to go along with the demo disc, The Corrs and the Eagles Hotel California. For my taste these are good listening and sound very good on the TL system.

Yes, Running on Empty is supposed to be released on DVD-A in February.

Listened to Queen's The Game and Toy Matinee yesterday. Both are excellent surround mixes for those of you who like the music.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery DVD-A is nothing short of amazing while listening to it in the TL. I highly recommend it.

How do you know if a CD is in DVD-A, like on Amazon? Is there a way to search?

I got the new Staind CD 14 Shades of Grey. It sounds much better in 5.1.

I've been an Eagles fan for many years and the cut of Hotel California rocks on the TL system. There are some subtle sounds that I've not heard on the CD.

I just got Paul McCartney Band on the Run on DTS...it's kind of weak in some places, but pretty good in others.

Brain Salad Surgery....here's my dilemma about this one and several others: I've listened to several of these albums so many hundreds of times over the years, and already have them on CD but hardly ever break them out to listen in the last few years. So its tough to justify buying a dvd-a like this just for the novelty of listening to it once or twice before shelving it next to the CD that I already never listen to. Know what I mean?

Where is everyone getting these DVD-A's? Are there any cheap sites online?

may not be cheap, relatively speaking, but pretty good selection:

http://www.dvdplanet.com/browse_subc...categoryid=305

http://www.dvdempire.com/index.asp?o...641504&redir=1

http://store.acousticsounds.com/stor...&searchtext=18

Pretty good sites, decent prices.....

Amazon's DVD-audio selection is WEAK. They don't have any of the popular ones.

You can find reviews and news about DVD-A by professionals (I assume) at http://www.highfidelityreview.com/ and by ordinary folks at http://www.digitalaudioguide.com/. Thanks for the info on additional sites offering DVD-A for sale; I'd only found dvdempire so far.

www.dvdpricesearch.com is a decent search engine that comparison shops a few of the lowest-price stores out there, including DeepDiscountDVD (where I've bought most of mine), DVDPlanet, Barnes & Noble, and DVD Empire. There's quite a price spread out there, so it pays to shop around.

Overall, I've found DeepDiscountDVD has the lowest prices overall and free shipping, though sometimes it takes some time to get the disc.
