Resetting ECU makes me happy :)

I'll have to try this. I bought my car from my Dad who mostly used to it commute to his office and back, often in rush hour traffic. Feels really good when you get all the way on it but in normal driving the throttle response isn't very good, feels more like a 4 cylinder than a V6. Of course, coming from a couple of 2002 Maximas (first one an automatic, second a 6 speed) and the strong midrange torque that VQ35s have, that might have something to do with it too.

well i finally got around to doing this after i replaced the trany pressure switches.
I had the check eng like come on due to running the car with the airbox removed in order to get the car up to normal operating temp.
I tried doing it with the gas pedal and i believe it was not working do to the check eng light never going off which would indicate ECU reset(airbox was re-installed), am i correct for assuming this?
The check eng light finally did go away after a couple of cycles.
So i did reset it via the battery method, i had the neg cable disconnected for bout 30 min, and as soon as the navigation did its thing i took it out for a ride and onto the highway and def noticed a difference.
I wish there was some type of notification to let you know its been done doing it via the pedal.

^^^I don't think it apply to MT since you guy decide when to change gear lol, AT does shifting by computer that calculate the throttle and the gear that in. Common you MT people put down more number on the dyno and now you guy asking for more? at least this is AT bonus.

cannot wait to try this on my new '06 TL which has 7,000 miles on it !! The previous owner was an 80-yr old man, therefore I have a good feeling my car will be MUCH quicker/responsive once I reset the ECU on my baby, CAN'T WAIT !!

I can't believe it, but this actually works! i feel like its a new car! Resetting your ecu is like feeling you put a new performance mod on your car

Definitely works. I was taking off slow for a little bit and my car adjusted to it and it started to suck. Reset it and there was an obvious difference.

Did not work for me
Haha, time is all it took my friend! I actually found it at the end of my first weekend looking for a new TL!
Also, my parents were with me (turning 24 beginning of April) so they were barking in my ears during my hunt so I listened to them & took a low mileage '06 over a higher mileage '08. While I do like some of the updates they made over the 2 years, it was not enough to justify spending more money (spent $18,895, included 1 yr warranty~bumper to bumper) & I did not want to pass up this beauty as it was immaculate, the best condition TL I saw throughout my search on Long Island. The only feature that bugged me was the lack of an AUX adapter, but I fixed that this weekend with a BlitzSafe which works exactly like the stock aux on '07+ TL's! $70 on Amazon is not bad at all & I installed the device without taking the entire center console/radio out!
All in all, I might have spent a little more than some have on this forum but I have piece of mind that the previous owner 'babied' my TL, drove it barely 1,000 miles a year & since my parent's threw down cash, I avoided a loan w/ interest @ 3%. Also, I don't have to perform any maintenance besides routine oil change / filter swaps which my dealer offered for free the first year
RANT OFF ~ now back to the resetting of the ECU...considering the prior owner was approaching 80 years old (Yes, I found a mailing advertisement in the glovebox with the previous owners address/name & looked up his age online, amazing what GOOGLE can find!) I thought I had the perfect scenario but I did not notice ANY difference in throttle response! I was severely disappointed as many of you noticed a big difference so I come here hoping I did it wrong (really annoying Acura did not include some kind of notification to know it was reset!)
These are the steps I followed, to the T;
1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.
2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back
to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas
pedal.
5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment.
6. Drive the car as you always do.
~~Key on, pedal down, 5 sec, key off pedal up, wait 2
minutes~~
Anywhere I could have gone wrong, in following these directions on page 1 of the thread?

We have just anecdotal proof. I know it works because I can see my car shifting differently (described else where in this thread). Plus, I can hear a solid thump from under the hood during the rest steps. I strongly believe the noise is the sound of the throttle body valve slamming closed as part of the reset process. Plus, I have the notorious hanging 2nd gear problem which goes away once the ecu learns about how quickly my car can accelerate. If I do the reset, I will have the hanging issue all over again until the ecu again relearns how quick my car can accelerate.

I'm sure the 'proper' way is to use the HDS as the service manual states. But real life experiences, especially Inaccurate's great attention to detail has just as much merit.
If you don't make any changes or sense any issues as he has, then you may not see a difference. It actually may seem worse while it is re-calibrating.
I noticed that I had a small amount (1-2 clicks) on my TPS cal using the MS3. I know that can be an initial cal error but the point is that sensors creep over time, so it probably is advantageous to go through this from time to time.
As far as some of these procedure to calibrate specific sensors or steppers, I don't know.

Well I tried this once with the op's method and felt nothing. Then i tried again using the method posted by innacurate and I did notice my idle was very different on startup for a few seconds but didnt notice a considerable difference when driving... maybe because im a 6 mt....

Ughhh, I'm sick of people with 6spd manuals lurking this tread like an ECU reset will work on their vehicle....6MT ECU does not reset from the specified steps in first or 8th page of thread...heck I almost doubt it works on my auto but then again I have only had the car for 3 weeks now...

If you read a few pages of this thread, you would have seen that multiple people reported it does NOT work on 6MT TL's
This is just the first few pages of this thread....

Aahhh yes silly me...i guess i was expecting a bit more of a technical answer from you with your extensive experience having a tl for 3 weeks :rolleyes

everytime i resec my ecu with the 30 something seconds on the gas pedal method my car starts driving the way it should have all the time. Its so much more responsive and peppy and the shifts are much crispier. It feels like it wants to race that kinda feeling.
but somehow it always gets lazy on me, after a while driving the car which by that i mean days maybe weeks, i didnt really pay attention until recently it starts becoming sluggish with a big lag in response to my pressing on the gas pedal. It feels like as if i have to push the pedal more then i should just to keep it going. Now when i do reset the ecu its like i press 1/8th and zoom zoom.
I know the ecu adapts to ur driving style but i dont think thats my driving style i just like the car to accelerate efffortlessly.
is there a way to have the ecu not adapting.... im thinking to put a switch somewhere in the cabin to switch the fuse that holds the charge for the ecu.
so i could easily reset it everytime i feel the car got a little lazy..
i just wonder if there would be any consequences by doing that....

I owned a '99 before so I do know a little about Acura & the TL...no need to fight over something as stupid as this dude, relax. If you have a manual, I'm jus saying that many people have said it does not work
