Resetting ECU makes me happy :)

This link below is a fun read (editorial). Be sure to read the comments section too.
The Acurazine website tries to mess with the direct link. So, you need to do a manual copy-N-paste.

I been Google'ing for hours (over the past week) trying to find the origin. I checked the Service Manual too. And like you said, the manual has no mention of it.
I found that the MBWorld.org Forum uses our exact same procedure for their Mercedes-Benz. Most brands of cars do have some sort of a similar procedure.
I have yet to find (and still searching) for anything close to being official from Honda/Acura.

I'm torn between agreeing with all of you after having just done it, or thinking it's complete BS that when I drive like an ass and my car performs accordingly it's because I just reset the ECU.

I did it on my Type-s and i didn't notice a difference my car pulls hard all the time but i do drive it hard so maybe that's why? I don't know it could also be our heads playing tricks on us IMO.

it's very easy for you mind to make you believe you are or are not feeling something when it's technically insignificant.
I mean it's not like the diff of adding headers so it may work it may not... you may feel it you may not...
either way tho. it's not significant enough to be a concern of mine

Well, I'm back to bring you guys how the driving performance was after resetting the ECU on 2004 TL.
Definitely noticed the speed increasing by slight pedaling.
*Satisfied*
But, not really gonna be speeding. Trying to get at least 300 Mileage on the tank.

^^550???? In a CL or 3rd Gen? Are you a freakin grandma? LOL .... youd have to get 36mpg, drive all highway, and run her bone dry to get anywhere near 550 miles per tank!
Please explain.
Some simple math:
36mpg x 15gal = ~540 miles & bone dry.

For me, the vast majority of my commute time is spent in stop-n-go traffic. Now, I sure hope that this "smart" PCM does not think that I am driving this why intentionally.... and begin to adapt it's behavior thinking I *like* to drive slow as a grandma with poor vision. This is one reason I am interested in this unconfirmed PCM reset.
You people know that I have a sensitive butt-dyno. And, I pick-up on the smallest stuff. Plus, my TL is much more primitive than oem. With the stiff IM engine mounts, PCD, stripped interior, non Z1 trans fluid, overall light vehicle weight, I can easily hear and feel whatever my car is doing.
I am into my second week of testing this PCM reset. It will take months of testing before I am able to offer any confident conclusions. That is how subtle this PCM reset is... at least for me. But thus far, I do think that I feel a difference. The areas where *I think* this PCM reset helps me is the following area -
1) Under extremely light acceleration, the trans will shift-up sooner into the next gear.
2) The throttle seems more progressive, requiring less travel to receive a given amount of acceleration.
3) The trans will execute wot downshifts more aggressively. One area that really bugs me is trying to get the trans to downshift into 2nd gear when I at approx 56-57 mph. Sometimes when I go wot at 57 mph, the trans will only drop to 3rd gear. I hate that. With the PCM reset, *I think* that the trans will drop down to 2nd guaranteed when I go wot at 57 mph. I am still testing although..
I will keep this thread updated as I learn more.

well i remember I got 600kms one time and I was still a few (3) notches from the E light... so... that's roughly 700kms ISH
OK I take it back 450 miles.. srry
damn i forgot how friggin far a mile is. 1.6kms
But yes I'm sure I can get a consistent 700kms out of her no problem if it were highway driving.
I only push the pedal a smidge when I am commuting. There;'s no need to waste gas.
I've already put on 35000KMS since I got the car in April.
So saving gas is a necessity.

I'd say at least 80% of my driving is city roads with me grandma driving lol. And i still get good mileage.
I think it's all driving habit... and ppl blame their cars for how they drive.
I don't change my driving cause I am mad or stress or w/e... that shit don't effect me like that.
LOL, but for those of you who use ur ride as an anger management class, I could see why you're like wtf when it comes to mileage.
these cars are BOATS, if ur a heavy at all on the pedal when starrting, and if you hit the brakes a lot then yes you will have brutal mileage no matter what you do.
drive like a grandma for a full tank and I bet most of you would be like WTF?

if people literally have to convince each other it does or doesn't work, the odds are it doesn't.
Then again however, people were and still are skeptical about the option pulley upgrade, and some feel a difference and some don't apparently. And I felt a difference for SURE.
So who the hell knows about whether this work on not...really.
maybe some people's car's ecu's really act against their likings because of how they drive and where they drive. maybe that's why some feel a diff and some cant feel shyt.??
either way the possibility is there

Well I too was torn between believing it would make a difference and that it would not. I have been driving like a grandpa all week & today had a 40 miles drive to meet a client, I was stepping on it here & there going between 90 and 105mph. Did feel the car a little heavy, slugish....unless I floored it. However, I did drive like this aggressively the entire drive. THEN after meeting the client, driving back it felt lighter & more responsive. I feel it reset itself, which makes sense...if it can reset down, it can reset back up.
Next on the list, I'll drive nice again & then try the turning key thing or call the dealer's shop to see if they think we're full of it.

Did mine, And I usually drive conservatively.
Before reset: With my usual light pedal, car is slow to respond, corolla's and camry's pass me easily, but I don't care, I'm conserving gas.
Post reset: The same light pedal has more oomph. Car feels quite a bit lighter on its feet.
I definitely think it's done something, or this is some major Placebo!

Ive been doing this regularly for the past 2 years and ALWAYS feel the diff... though it subsides over time until another reset is performed. When/how the tranny shifts also changes based on driving style. Upshifting as well as how willing the car is downshift is very dynamic....
When im hard on the car all day then lower my pedal mashing, the tranny stays in a lower gear for longer before shifting to get the most out of the powerband it seems.

It is nowhere in the FSM, I think its a placebo working in everyones heads!!
From what ive read it seems as if the memory is more like a rolling average. The computer is constantly changing the setting as the car is driven. I dont see how resetting the throttle pedal is going to cause an increase in power.
