Resetting ECU makes me happy :)

I drive relatively conservatively and have tried this numerous times with no perceivable change

... & that's 2 more in the club! so with about 8 now, & a few of them experienced forum members here, feeling the null change after this method, IMHO for those who claim these huge noticable differences, it's all in your heads.

I tried the methodical...methods of stepping on the pedal while turning the car on, etc to no avail. I did follow them precisely, but no change on my 05 TL.
Whenever I disconnect the battery for an extended amount of time (just did a 3x3 the other day with redline), the engine response is much quicker and sharper.
I also am using a resistor to trick my ECU into thinking the AIT reads -22. This was present for all tests.

Yup. Works fine for me. Do it every couple weeks for fun.

Did it yesterday and noticed no change at all. Placebo effect imo.

Did the turn key/pedal method. The car definitely responded faster from a complete stop and go! Tires wanted to spin but I was near my job parking lot so didn't want the attention and let off the gas some. Previously hitting the gas hard the car would take off but in a much more exaggerated manner( my TL would feel heavy) and would shift kinda jumpy. This felt smooth and I didn't feel the jerkyness at all. I'll do this every month from now on!!!

Does make a difference
I just tried this method. Put the key in to the last postion before the engine turns over. Put the pedal down and held. I noticed the engine light go out after about 15 seconds (haven't had time to check if it does this normally), put the key to the off postion, and released the pedal. Waited a bit and started the car. I noticed smoother shifting and downshifting (when coasting). I have a 2007 TL AT canadian. I will drive it some more and see how much of a difference there really is. But first impression is that it does seem to work
#453
update to my above msg ^^^ the engine light turns off regardless of whether pedal is pushed down or not, so we can assume that by it turning off during this method is NOT a sign of anything. Also, since doing this reset, car is still shifting smoother, but up and down
#455
on a whim I decided to try this the other day, and I can 100% say that there is a difference. Is the car faster? No not at all from what I can tell but whoever must of been driving this car before I purchased it a couple months ago must of been a lead foot.
The car now rev's much faster with less of a pedal push then previously. I used had to give it a good amount if I wanted to launch faster from a start then I do now. To me it drives like it should, before I was wondering why I had to give it so much gas(pedal push) in order to get it to going like I felt it should have.
Now to wait and see if my MPG goes down from this..

I tried the gas pedal method and I don't think it worked. If it did, it was nothing major and a very slight difference. I did notice as a previous user said, that at first, the car liked to stay in higher rpm's after letting the foot off the gas, I think that is what caused everyone else to believe that their car ran "smoother" or shifted/coasted smoother.

You guys that don't feel a change and think it's placebo effect or whatever, you must be doing it wrong. Very easy to notice a diff in my car. Maybe it's harder to notice in a 100% stock car idk but it does work, it's not all in our heads. My friends can notice it right away too.

All I do is get in the car, turn the key to where it turns everything on, but not the engine, then I turn everything off like radio, lights, A/C etc. and remove the key out entirely. I don't know if this is necessary but I do it anyway. I wait a few seconds and then I do this:
1. I hold the gas pedal all the way down.
2. Put the key in and turn to the same position again (just before it cranks the engine), do not start the car, do not touch anything electrical (just let the GPS screen come on and turn itself off, don't touch it).
3. Time 10 seconds.
4. After 10 seconds, turn key to off position (the position where the key comes out), but do not remove the key.
5. Let go of the gas pedal.
6. Time 2 full minutes.
7. Start the car normally and you're done. I let it idle for a few seconds before taking off.
I've had once or twice where it didn't work, I probably didn't do something right, but it's worked every other time, I've done it a dozen times. What you're looking for is a bigger partial throttle acceleration compared to how far the pedal is. WOT is the same. Car does feel smoother on partial throttle acceleration too. Lasts a few days, it's fun
Note - idk if this still works on those who are running on a hondata tune..

Btw make sure you turn traction control off. The ecu can reduce the torque output when you punch it, to avoid wheel spin.

I agree. Whenever I do it, I can tell the difference right away. It is NOTICEABLE. I'm not saying the car has more power or anything like that, but it feels like the power band is in a different place. More low end and mid acceleration and smoother shifts. WOT is still the same.

I've done it a handful of times and it definitely works. I noticed that pulling out of my driveway , I pressed on the pedal normally and spun tires a bit in the gravel, and just noticed it seemed overall more peppy, especially when passing other cars. Doesn't work long for me though, since I baby my car and drive like a grandma - No sharp turns, hard acceleration , hard stops m etc..

its change the way the throttle response to your input, similar to the Lexus Snow and sport mode. My wife complaint its too rough for her after a reset.

Here is my point of view and prove me if I am wrong.
At the end of the day, your car will perform the same way as before resetting the ECU. I think that it only adjusts the sensitivity of your gas pedal and that's it. I am pretty sure that when you floor it before and after resetting, the car will have the same amount of power.
I tried resetting mine twice by unplugging the battery but I didn't feel any difference in gas pedal sensitivity or overall car's performance.
Thanks

Also, if you unplug the battery, let the car idle for 10mins on 1st start, before driving it. No need to do this with the reset trick.
Marco describes it pretty good:

True, but no matter how hard you drive, eventually it'll settle down a bit, with all the stops, red lights and time in traffic.

for all the AT guy after 5x3 along with new switches I did the pedal methods and the car shifting is fantastic. You just tap the pedal lightly and watch that tach response quicker.

No lie, I tried this, and it definitely makes a difference. I have a pretty heavy gas foot, and this brought all the response back. So much so that I got pulled over doing 31 over, about five minutes after resetting. Probably not a result of the ecu reset as much as me just being stupid, but still. Luckily, he was a good dude and only wrote me for a seatbelt. Wooh
