Request Credit Report from Dealer ?

I am planning to buy 06 NBP / Camel W/NAVI. The dealer has agreed to give the 4.9% APR financing and after two days the dealer told me that HOnda will give me a 6.9 % APR.

Can i request a credit report they ran through Honda and see what it is? I think i am eligible for 5.9% APR atleast if not 4.9%.

Let me know if anyone had this kind of issue or how to deal with these people.

When I was at the dealer after they ran my credit they actually gave me a copy of my credit report. If they don't offer it to you I'm pretty sure you can request it. If nothing else I'm sure they'll at least tell you your score.

You entitled to get your credit report for free from each of the credit bureaus once per year. You can do it online from the comfort of your home.

Credit report only. The FICA score cost 7 bucks, if I remember right.

www.annualcreditreport.com <-- still very helpful when looking up your credit history.

You need to regain control of this purchase. This time of year they are trying to give away the cars so don't settle for that high a rate. Look at buying a car as three transactions: A purchase, a sale of old car (trade in) and financing.

Once you agree with the salesman, the price and options. Work on the trade in price as a separate deal. Then let the sales guy write up the sales invoice. Once he asks you for the deposit you can add the subject before any money changes hands.

For example you can agree to purchase the car with a "subject to" clause that gives you the upper hand. If the dealer wants the sale it is up to them to match the terms of your subjects. So with a "subject to 1.9% financing over 60 months" term the dealers business manager has to sharpen his pencil if he wants to complete the sale, not the salesman. The size of your deposit will help determine the rate you are given. The salesman can pressure the dealer to push the sale through because he has spent all that time selling. It is always a good idea to have a "subject to a post PDI test drive" because it can give you one last chance to opt out if it smells fishy.

The book Lemon Aid has great tips on how to buy a car, new or used.
Good luck.
