Replacment Battery Issue for 05'

Combined with the cold winters we have in Alberta, PLUS the lack of Auto head lights on a near luxury car ( still can't figure that one out), my battery needs replacing.

I'm not going to the dealer so I've been looking around at retail outlets. Problem is that batteries listed for the 05 TL' don't seem to be the correct battery? i.e. all of them are not as wide as the original battery? While others put caps on top of the battery that will no doubt fail when you tighten the stock battery holder.
So I just took the dimensions of the old battery, found one that is very similar and bought it. Bought an Energizer 72-124RN which seems to work(just installed though).

But after reading an article on AC Delco batteries I've discovered not all batteries are make the same. AC Delco needs more voltage than normal to charge properly.

Anyway anyone know if this Energizer battery is a good choice for my car? Or for that matter know of a Energizer Car battery web site where I can learn about their batteries?

TIA
John

My '05 automatic TL battery (the wife's car) died in November. We got an Interstate for the replacement and it fits perfectly. Sorry, I don't recall the model number, but any shop that carries that brand should be good to go for you.

Perhaps this will help you:

As far as auto headlights, you should be able to leave them on and they will go off by themselves. When you hit the FOB to unlock your car, they should come back on.

Looks like it's a 7 yr 700 CCA battery. It'll be fine.

As stated above is fine, but they will be on day and night, not quite your normal mode for Auto headlights.

True as I have the "Auto" switch on my control stalk.

Cool

Why would you settle for 700 CCA when you can get 945 CCA? I know what I did. Do a search you will find all kinds of info here on this topic!! Here is the one I bought. It spins mt TL over fast. I mean even at -30 below, sitting outside all day at work. Here is the link=http://braillebattery.com/index.php/batteries/b7548/#

Why buy a 945 CCA when you only need a 65AH battery?
Why not buy the 1285 CCA Braille if you wanted big?

For those of us that live in the snowbelt, it's best to get the battery with the most CCA...as long as it fits. I agree you can get a battery with 945 CCA, but why would you need that unless you live in the frozen tundra of North Dakota? I replaced my batter last year with one from NTB that had the 7 year warranty and I haven't had a problem since.

Agree. I also purchase a battery that has the highest CCA available at a reasonable price, or at least one that has more than the OE battery. I was being sarcastic as the OP had already purchased the battery, which is more than adequate, so why then criticize that purchase.

Wow are you off! Who was try to criticize him? I wasn't. 2nd, did you even look at the link I posted? I mean before you were trying to shoot me down? My guess is no. Because the battery you are talking about is the one I got from them. The one I was talking about (for the OP info only) is the one with 945 CCA's. You are quoting the same battery but you quoted me, all of us the number of Cranking Amps 30 sec @ 32F: Not CCA wich is read at 0 F. Not +32 F. So maybe I wasn't so far off as you said?????

Not at all! I was just trying to inform. After all thats why they call this a forum. Right. That is the biggest drawback about the typed word. It's so easy to misunderstand. I know cuz I DO IT ALL THE TIME..... Thank's for not getting mad at me for my last post. Did you understand what I was trying to say about the CCA's?

Just because I make a negative response, doesn't indicate that I'm annoyed or mad.
Not too certain as to the information you wrote, but CCA's are rated at 32 degrees and deteriorates as the temp falls. Normally at zero it's about 25% of the rated CCA. If it is the 1285, it should be around 960 at zero. Right?

this info is for the braille B3121

Pulse Cranking Amps (PCA) 5 sec @ 80F: 1380
Pulse Cranking Amps (PCA) 10 sec @ 80F: 1207
Pulse Cranking Amps 20 sec @ 80F: 1066
Cranking Amps 30 sec @ 80F: 892
Cranking Amps 30 sec @ 32F: 742
Cold Cranking Amps 30 sec @ 0F: 550

so based on this CA is at 32 degrees, and CCA is at 0

Thanks Turbonut, the link you posted for the Energizer battery is for AC Delco. Unless I'm doing something wrong on that site I can't find the battery I bought, nor can I find the said battery on the Energizer site someone else posted. As I mentioned all the "correct" batteries for this car are the wrong size or have cover's on top of the battery that interfere with the hold down strap.

Well John, guess times have changed. Years ago AC Delco made the Energizer battery, but now I see that Energizer is a different line sold by the likes of Pep Boys and WalMart. Not my day.

I'm not sure if I'm adding anything here but I have 40k on my '05 6MT and just recently brought it to the dealer I bought it from for the power steering hose and windshield wiper motor recalls and asked them to look at the battery.
When I went to pick it up they said that the replaced the battery under warranty..how about them apples....

HEK, sounds like you got the exact same treatment as me. I didn't even know that my battery was bad, but like you, when they did the power steering hose recall, they replaced it with a new one. I'm glad they did as it started fine two weeks ago when it got down to -13 below. For the '05 owners out there with OEM batteries that are going bad, it may be worth a shot to talk to the dealer.

I think this dealer rocks, I've bought my 2002 RSX-S and traded it for the TL in '05 but have never had them do any service at all, go figure, what's crazy it's that they gave me a loaner car ('09 TSX) for the day and didn't even ask me to gas it up after putting close to 100 miles on it (had the day off and had to run some errands)...sorrry didn't mean to hi-jack the thread...

before you do anything call the dealer. it may be still under warranty (separate from the car warranty). I have an 05AT and the battery went in October. I got it replaced at N/C. Yours may be fully or at least partial covered

I just had the battery replaced. The vehicle (2005 non nav. 6MT) had approx. 53K miles on it when I brought it to the dealer for routine service and the Service Advisor indicated that the battery was weak and not holding charge. Had them replace for approx. $130. Got a phone call several days later from the Advisor who said that the battery was being replaced under warranty. I received a refund for the battery costs about a week later. Acura must be having an issue with the 2005 batteries.

Cool YES!! I agree!!

I was wondering if you saw this?

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/just-got-my-check-acura-706516/

So I wouldn't get a weeky-squeaky OEM battery. One thats going to fail again. But invest in a High Output one of the Advanced AGM Design. Why settle for less when Acura will pay for about 1/2 the price?? Take a couple of seconds and look at the thread I put up Look up!
