Replacing cruise control switch
Replacing cruise control switch
If you are replacing either of the cruise control switches, they are held in by 2 little self tapping screws that go in from the back side of the steering wheel. The problem is they are Phillips and in *very* tight so be very careful getting them out or they will strip. It doesn't help that I did not remove the steering wheel, but if you have the tools I recommend you do that so you can access the holes more easily. Also, before you put the new switch in, run the screws down the holes to tap them. I didn't do that and only got one screw in all the way and the other went in about half way before it began to strip so now my switch isn't 100% tight. I don't plan on trying to redo it because I might end up with two loose, stripped screws!
Just be careful to only pre-tap to approximately the same depth as the old switches or you might break the plastic. I recommend buying new screws, too, just in case.
Whoever choose the Phillips head for a self tapping screw wasn't using his brain. They should be socket head or Torx. Duh.
