I have a 2005 TL auto and I have a couple questions on the Auto tranny.

* When the car is in tiptronic mode why cant I manually shift out of 1st gear? it always does it automaticaly. How can I make it so I have full manual control of all the gear selections.

* When I am doing some Spirited driving how come it seems like it never full redlines any of the gears. I would think that I am leaving some performance on the table by short-shifting like this.

 

1. that is the way it works on that year of TL, the new ones let you bounce off of the rev limiter all day long

2. under WOT ECU will shift at preset rpm and that is about 6700 WOT. fuel cutoff is 7100 and ur car will hit the rev limiter 2x before shifting in SS mode on it's own. Also the tach is not 100% accurate so while it may be shifting at 6700 it is possible that the tach could show something else like 6500 or so. in my 02 CL-S the tach actially goes to 6800 WOT but I know that isn't the case...
