Removing A pillar?

Do you have to disconnect the battery when removing the a pillar? (im not sure because of the airbag. ) And does the battery have to remain disconnected while it is off?

I am asking because I am planning on tapping into a wire there today and dont want an air bag to blow up in my face. lol

Thanks!

Let's put it this way, better to be safe then sorry, remove the negative cable. I always do, but have a battery pack that plugs into OBDII connector and therefore all the settings are retained.

oh i didnt know you could do that. to bad i dont have a battery pack and obdII connector. I will just disconnect the battery, remove the a pillar, tap into the wires i need, put back the a pillar, and then test my wire connections. if they are wrong i will just do it all over again.. dangit..lol

thanks!

OK, I've removed the A pillar for the V1 install..

You do realize there is an air bag in there? So being careful is a must.

^ Yes, I did. Just in case, if I did something wrong. But it's a pretty simple install... just take your time.

I don't think it's a hard thing to disconnect the battery. I always do it when I tap into wires.

but I don't think there's something related to side airbag in A-pillar. the two sensors are near front and rear wheels, inflater is in C-pillar.

but again, I disconnect battery for any electrical work.

I want to remind people that the service manual calls for new clips if any trim pieces covering the airbag gets removed, even the clips are in good shape.

I passed the wire through the a-pillar myself for my V1 install. I would think it might make more sense to just wire the V1 into fuse box down to the left of the driver's foot. That is how I wired mine. That way you aren't messing with any wires that could void any of the warranty.
