Remove Bumper for License & Reverse Lights?

My car is at the Acura dealer for service and I gave them my VLED trunk. reverse and license LEDs to install. They quoted me $42 for the install based on 1/2 hr job.

They just called me back saying they may have to remove the bumper to get to the license lights which is more labor intensive.

I told them only the inner lining of the trunk should be removed. Am I correct?

If this is the case, I will cancel and do it myself. I thought I could save time and have them do it since the car is there being serviced.

HAHA What pieces of shit they are... God I hate dealers. There is NO reason why the bumper should have to come off to change the license plate lights, no reason at all.

Wow this is a great resource. I have added this to my favorites. I will call the dealer back and tell them to either install as instructed here or cancel and I will do it myself. thanks.

Lol. Those lights took me 10 minutes...taking off the trunk liner is the longest part.

You're a chump if the dealer does it for you for $42. Do it yourself!

Shoot, if I can do it, so can you. I've done it in my 08 TL-S, old 04 TSX and a friends 06 TSX too. Just take your time, it's not hard.

you dont need to even take off the entire trunk liner.

to the OP - it'll take you less than 5 mins if you do it youself. probably the one that will take the longest is pulling the old bulbs off the sockets for the license plate lights.

Yes, well, if you spend a lot of money on mods..... But to get things fixed or even good deals on parts or mods, it saves a bit.

I told them to not do it. I am picking the car up tomorrow and doing it myself. I thought it was much more involving than that. I did all the interiors myself but took a look at the exterior lighting and couldn't figure out how to get them off.

Tampa florida, Ferman.

They just called me back and said no bumper removal is needed and would do the changes for $42. LOL, maybe they are reading this thread.

They are definately trying to scam you on the bumper part. So far as the $40 labor charges for changing the bulbs...while it seems expensive...its about on par believe it or not. Thats why you do those kinds of things yourself.

yea 1/2 hr of labor so the rate is right. I declined and will do it tomorrow. I was afraid of damaging the car doing this but after reading these threads, it seems simple enough.

My next mod is a dead pedal which is being machined now

You do not need to remove the bumper to get at those lights...the tail lights...yes but that is a different story. Like someone had posted, the hardest part is removing the trunk lid lining. I just did it today in under 30 mins. Save yourself the $42 and do it yourself, there is a nice DIY section that I used. Good luck!

id read the diy, go to the dealership and prove them wrong.. that'll teach them lol

service managers always think they know what they're doing.. my keyhole cover on the passenger side came off, and they quoted it as a 3hr job. I said uhh that takes 5min. he came back to me in the waiting room and said, "HEY YOU WERE RIGHT!!!"

Those guys are so expensive.
I try to do all the simple work my self.
If you use the search, you will find info on how to do anything.
It just takes a little time and dealing with the Tampa humidity!

You might want to go with this:

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/white-cold-cathode-license-plate-how-3g-garage-g-070-a-605201/

Won't flicker or go out like LED's.......very bright also.
