REmote starters?

anyone install a remote starter on their TL yet? This freaking New England winter is really icing my ass in the morning.

I'd like for the remote starter to jive with the acura remote (perhaps the panic button). any recommendations?

it's best to let your car warm up for less than a minute; you're probably better off with a block heater

i wanted to install a remote starter the weekend after christmas but thought i might wait until people have a chance to fully figure out the electrical system. too many gadgets to mess up, plus it'll void some sort of warranty.

Questions about remote starters:

Any way to make this remote system work off the remote that comes with the TL? I'd like to remote start but hate having the extra fobs on the keychain.

Also, does remote starter void the warrantee?

Thanks

The thing to remember is that the key fob thing is NOT an alarm. It's a remote keyless entry.
The alarm is built into the car, and even if you don't use the keyfob thing, you still have an alarm.

So the real questions is if the remote starter can replace your keyfob thing, and the answer is probably yes.

(Of course, I'm speaking out of my but right now, but will know more in a week or two.)

wtf? then why does the alarm set everytime you lock the doors? if you replace the keyfob, you won't be able to set your alarm

What I mean't was if there is a way not to carry 2 remote control fobs. Such as programming the new remote that starts the car to do the other fobs functions as well. Or reassigning the buttons on the existing OEM remote to do other things than they were intended (ie. start the car). Any knowledge about this?

The alarm will set if you lock the car with the key or by pressing the lock button then closing the door. The fob can be replaced.

Okay, I got my remote starter installed.

I got the CompuStar 2WSS, which has an LCD remote that's good for 1¼ miles. (If you believe marketing types.)

Anyway; here's how it works.
I don't need the factory remote.
I can unlock the doors using the new remote.
I can start the car using the new remote.
I can open the trunk using the new remote.
The new remote also has a panic feature.
The new remote is 2-way, so it pages me if the alarm goes off.

Here's what doesn't work.
I don't have seperate lock and unlock buttons. So, when I unlock the car; it unlocks all doors, not just the driver.
I cannot unlock and hold to put the windows down. (But I can start the car and have the AC kick in so who cares.)
If I remote start the car, I cannot use the factory keyfob to unlock the doors.

Biggest problem with the installation was around the chip in the key thing.
They tried a couple of different imobilizers, but they didn't work.
They ended up taking the chip out of one of the keys and taping it inside the dash. So, when the remote start starts the car, the car "sees" a key.
The problem with this is that I cannot use a regular key to start the car on its own, as it then sees two chips, and gets confused.
I have a key without a chip to get around this; and they say that there will be a new imobilizer unit out in a month or two.

Once the car has been remote started, a key must be inserted into the ignition and turned to the ON position before the brake is pressed. If the brake is pressed before a key is inserted then the engine dies.
Since this is an automatic, you can't change gear without pressing the brake, so it's still pretty difficult to steal the car.

So far I love this thing. I'll try to post an opinion in a couple of weeks once I've gotten used to it.

I had the compustar 2wss on my cl before i traded it. The alarm is fully capable of unlocking driver door alone then the other doors. The alarm has 2 aux channels that they could have used to control the windows. Congrats on getting it installed and working. I think with some time the installers will know how to make it work. Its an excellent alarm. I loved mine. I still have it in a box.
