Recommendation - Bra or Braless

I'm getting an 07 TL in Carbon Bronze Pearl and am trying to decide whether to add a clear bra or not. I'd like some protection from the inevitable chips, but am also worried about how easy the bra itself will hold up. Without it, I can always touchup and try to blend the really bad rock chips, but the results vary. With it, I think I get some protection, but what happens if the bra itself is damaged by a rock? The only fix is to replace that section of the bra. What experiences have others had and what would you recommend? Do these things really work to prevent chipping?

I've had the clear bra on my 06 TL for some time now, and I love it. Almost makes me wish I would of considered it for other cars. Where I live the roads suck so there is always stuff getting kicked up to my car, so it benefits me alot, maybe not as much as others. But in the end it does help yes. I'd recommend it.

Get it done before you drive off the lot. It is worth the money.

You can try to do it yourself, if you feel comfortable enough to do it. Or most Tint Shops can do it if you choose not to yourself.

I would say get the clear bra, it holds up excellent! You can try and do it your self, read my thread, it still looks good today!

Get the bra, especially if you intend to keep the car a long time. It will keep the front end in reasonably good shape. I used the Xpel clear bra on my 3G TL and it looked as good on the day I traded it as the day it was installed. In fact, I am having a clear bra installed tomorrow morning on my RL. Luckily, I haven't had any paint chips in the 3k+ miles I've driven it so far.

I wanted it on at the time I purchased the car, but my dealer has no relationship I know of with an installer.

You can't even tell it's on unless you're looking from certain angles.

It's less prone to problems than the traditional car bra, which you have to take off in the rain in order to avoid paint damage from the dirt that is inevitably caught underneath.

i would go braless, from what i hear it can tend to yellow over time, especially if left in the sun. And if it does yellow and you want to take it off......... stickiness and some discoloration underneath will happen. never had the bra so i don't know for sure, just posting what I've learned.

I havent had a problem with it yellowing, I believe it will be noticable on the lighter cars such as SSM and WDP. I dont believe there would be discoloration on your paint, only really if you dont take care of your paint and the clear bra is pulled off, you can see the like new paint that was under it, and the chipped/pitted paint that was not covered. Or you can just get your whole front end covered.

I have always used the OEM nose mask on my other Acura's, but never kept it on for more than a day. Only when I knew I'd be on the expressway. I never liked the look of the clear bra because up close you can see the line on the hood/fenders where it stops. Plust unless they do a perfect job you can see it on the bumper as well. I'm sure some come out better than others, but I'm not a fan of doing anything permanent to my car that may also become damaged.

You have to be less than 5 feet away, on black cars it is more noticable. You cant see it on the front bumper because the entire bumper is covered.
Here are some reference pictures, I did this kit myself:

Get the bra, it helps to keep the headlights up. Hey, someone had to go there. I have had the clear bras put on every vehicle I have owned, it really makes a difference, doesn't yellow, and you do not have to wash or wax any differently than before.

Huh? It's not permanent, it comes off. As far as seeing the line....you can't in most directions unless you're looking for it. Proof:

Here's a link to my new RL's clear bra. On some of those pics, you have to work hard to see the line.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3138

Here's the setup on my TL (done long before I traded her.....sniff....) :

Hood from the rear. You can really see the line easily on this light color; the fender and almost 1/2 the hood are covered. If you look closely, you can see that there's the hood immediately next to its opening is not quite covered. It took a LONG time for the installer to stretch it across those creases.

Hood from the side.

The rock chips (covered by touch-up paint a few months ago by a body shop) that prompted my preventive move prior to my upcoming cross-country trip

The whole assembly from the front. Again, if lines bother you, don't get a clear bra. OTOH, I'd rather see a line and know I have some protection, than to be vain and have a more pockmarked hood in no time at all.

When I purchase my car in 04 of Mar........the first day I picked up my TL, I received a rock chip. The next week I had the clear bra installed with custom fender protection front and rear. After 2.5 years with it on.......my frontend still looks brand new and the only chip I have is the one from 2.5 years ago. This is the best mod to install and it's well worth the money.

The installer in my area gaurantees that it will not yellow over time, if it does, they replace it.

I prefer my women bra-less !

But as far as the car goes, it's a verrrry smart investment.

Speaking from experience, I recommend buying the clear bra material from whomever installs it. That way, there's only one person to call and deal with if there's ever a problem.

Get the bra man!! Today I was driving at work. There were a lot of rocks on the road due to construction. A whole bunch were flying and you can hear the rocks making contact. It was horrible!! I was so worried. I had to wait till 9am so I can inspect my front in the sunlight. I checked it out, and no chips!! I love my clear bra!!

Too bad they don't have a kit for the plastic part of the underbody lip. I do have the paint covered for the lip... just not the plastic where I have a few visible rock chips.

Thanks for all the feedback. After talking with the shop that will add the Clear Bra and reading all the posts here, I'm going with the Clear Bra to be installed before I drive it off the lot. Now if I can just get the car. The dealer is trying to trade with another dealer before the special financing expires so I can get what I want.

Clear Bra!!!

Best thing to have for your car! I'm gonna get it at the dealership before I drive off the lot from now on!

I got mine from Inspire Auto in SoCal... They did a great job, good price... Mobile install too... they even have a referral program..

I found them on the 3M site in CA, Cerritos.

Ask for Peter...

Please tell them Victor sent you so I can get a referral fee!

Pics? You can buy a sheet of clear bra very cheap. You can probably get 8' x 2' for ~ $10.

There is a kit for the lip, but it doesn't cover the plastic part. Hopefully I'll have time today to post some pics. I could buy a sheet, measure it and cut it out and put on the plastic peice. If I was going to do that, I would have to repair the plastic.
