A rear window (with a view) 2004

I have read here and there some heartburn about the rear view mirror, and the over all view out the back window. Just finshed a weekend end trip on I-95, and the lone TL I saw did look a bit cluttered out the back window by the rear seat head restraints.

Current owners, what say you?

Constantly driving in L.A. traffic w/o a noticable issue. I think good seating and mirror position can overcome the small rear window

I've had mine about a month, after turning in my e36 328i. Outward visibility is a weak point of the TL, worse than my bimmer, and I thought
rear visibility there was pretty poor.

I have no problems with rear visibility because of mirror placement. I keep the rear seat head rests down to assist, easy to do because I'm the only one in the car 90% of the time.

Rear head rests down, mirrors set correctly for minimal overlap, and I have NO visibility issues. Very comfortable view when driving.

Interesting. I use a high seating position, have the mirrors set to overlap mimally, etc and yet find outward visibility to be poor. Question for those who feel it is a non-issue: Any other problems with TL ergonomics, even down to the type and placement of switchgear?

I really didn't notice any problems driving and got use to it. However, when I went to have my windows tinted, I removed both rear headrests so it would be easier to do the back window. I drove it around a few days like that and it does make a difference. When I put them back in it cut down on visibility, but not to the point of keeping the headrests removed, so I just keep them all the way down.

If it is a problem for you, and you rarely have back seat passengers, just remove them, put them into a bag, and keep them in your cargo net in the trunk. If you need them they will be right there, and are very easy to re-install.

No problems here!! I just focus on whats in front because once you pass them they never come back.

Blind Spot Eliminator:

Rely more on your side mirrors than your rear view mirror.

1. Set-up your rear view mirror from your normal comfortable driving position to allow for maximum visibility.
2. Lean to your left so your forehead touches the side window, then set your left side mirror so you see the left tail end of your car from this position.
3. Lean to your right an equal amount and set your right side view mirror so you can see the right tail end of the car from this position.

Voila, no more blind spots and the limited visibilty that one has from the rear window is less of an issue.

I have a question on this setup.

This is the great tip to eliminate blind spots. However, since 04TL can auto tilt-down side mirrors, what will you see via your side mirrors if their angels are far away from the car's edges?
