Rear Underbody Install Question..

I've done the various searches on this and every single one seems to say to remove the rear bumper and install the kit along with drilling the required holes.

My question is...are these different?

They are from Acuraoemparts and states it's a genuine part. It cleary states that it installs WITHOUT drilling or cutting.

Is that just one option and the other option is to drill holes in your bumper?

Thanks

there is some drilling required on the sides of the lip but how I installed mines was with the supplied 3m tape and reusing the clips held underneath the bumper. Extemely easy to do without removing the bumper

According to Acura's own instructions, there are 4 holes to drill on the back of the bumper. Not the side. So not sure if you really answered me since you drilled holes.

I'm thinking of ordering these but just wanted to make sure it's the same thing and I get all the necessary hardware with it.

Thanks

its not necessary to drill. There are tabs on the sides of the lip where drilling is an option I think....Like stillhere said, just use the tape and secure it more underneath by reusing the clips

Is the tape enough to keep the bumper on? Did you guys add additional tape too?

Drilling is what makes the difference between how steady the kit stays on should you have to remove the bumper.

You can use plenty of 3m tape and it will hold up, with time the gaps will appear, but most importan, should you have to remove the rear bumper for any reason, the kit will fall right off since the flexibility will bend it away from the 3m tape. I have mine drilled at the bottom + 3m tape. Couldn't drill the top 4 hole (Base, 3 on type S) since I have a type-s rear on a base model. The front I have base on base and I dirlled the hole. No gap what so ever till today.

If I were you , I would drill it

^+1. There are fastening points along the sides of the bumper which need you to drill in order to get a flush fit and not worry about the bumper falling off. Definilty recommend taking off the bumper it takes 5 mins to do, 3 screws on each wheel well, the two screws covered by the black caps on the top of the bumper where the trunk closes, and four push plastic pins in the bottom of the bumper in the middle.

Thanks. I guess might as well make it sturdier if I'm going to do it.

Bumper removal and drilling the 4 holes gets my vote...mine is rock-solid with NO gaps. It's just too easy not to do both.

Ok so I have my front and side lips on my car. Tonight I am doing the rear. I didn't get a template for drilling the 4 holes. How did you guys mark where to drill or is it already marked? Thanks

Once the bumper is off, you will see 4 "crosshairs" in the rear bumper. Just drill those out and you're good to go.

i tried to get away with not drilling the rear but it was not possible. unless ur gonna rigg it and do a half a$$ job and double side the sh*t out of the middle of the bumper. i would justy save the future headache and drill. its only 3 or 4 small holes, its not hard to do.

The rear bumper holes are hard to find. What you need to do is take off the bumper and hold the aspec kit up to it so you get an idea of where the holes will need to go. Then look in that area for the markings and drill away.

I have a type s and it took maybe less then an hour to install the rear under spoiler. The cross hairs where somewhat hard to find, there was primer over spray but I just used some nail polish remover on a cotton swab to remove the overspray and I was able to find them. The side skirts are easier if you plan on getting the full kit. The front portion should take as much time as the rear. 3-4hr install time for the whole kit.

Here are the instructions for the install for the rear portion.

https://hondacuraworld.hostasaurus.c...derspoiler.pdf

Read it over to see if you think you can tackle the install. Only basic tools are needed.

Thanks....I'm ordered the side and back (I've had the front for 2 years) and hope to receive them by this weekend.

I've decided to take the bumper off and install them properly.

Just a tip, after step 3 do a test fit before you pull back the inch or two of adhesive in step 4. On mine I had to widen one of the holes just a little bit. When you put on the 4 flange nuts there might be room to adjust, so I would snug them on and adjust if necessary then tighten once you have it where you want it. Good Luck

Thanks. I'm one of those guys who puts things together without looking at the instructions only to do it all over again. :-)

I'm planning on taking it nice and slow on this one.
