Rear-seat Removal

I have a 2004 TL and I am trying to change the rear 6x9" speakers. My problem is that I can't get the rear seatback out, to lift the rear deck, to expose the speakers. I got the seatbottom out easy enough. I even removed the 4 bolts at the botttom of the seatback (thinking that these were the only ones holding it in position) but when I try to lift the seatback up, there's still something securing it. Is there anybody that can provide a detailed description of what to do, or provide me with a link to some instructions or how to remove the back portion of the rear seat?

Please go to the Garage. It's in there, along with alot of other helpful info.

Lift up each headrest. Look for an upholstery seam in the seatback that is hiding behind each headrest. Poke inside that upholstery flap with your finger. Deep inside approx 2-1/2 inches, you will feel the head of a 10mm bolt. Remove the bolt hiding behind each headrrest.

no need to remove those two bolts, just loosen about 4 -5 tuns, then the seat will slide up, kinda like a picture frame.

I was in the same senario. I bought some 6x9 cause someone told me that was the size and come to find out they are 6.5. but "scmenace" is right. you have to take the head rests out and put a bolt in the seam and loosen the screws. but be careful when you take out the panels where the airbags are. It may take you a while but if you keep messing with it, you will eventually get it out. good luck.
