Rear ended

Argh! I try to keep her clean and this happens. Some chick in her VW bumps into me. It jerked me a bit and I stepped out thinking there was going to be a cracked bumper and to my surprise just few subtle scratches.

I want to get a new bumper but do you guys think anything else would have been damaged under the bumper ?

I know its a wild guess here and that I should take it to my bodyshop/dealer to have it looked at. She doesn't want to go through insurance however I got all her info and pics.

remove the bumper to check out damage.
there is a 5mph reinforcement bar that is supposed to help 5mph and under impacts.
anything over 5mph and the reinforcement bar is useless.

the bar might have done its job.

Any pics? Not sure why you'd need a new bumper if it has a few subtle scratches. It can be painted.

Can you open your trunk? If so it may not be that bad. Looking at a Bumper replacement, painting, maybe reinforcement bar...

Above all, and I assume you have her insurance info, tell her you will absolutely call her insurance company (or have yours call hers) if she doesn't pay up. Get estimates immediately as you don't want her to backpedal in an attempt to say, 'Oh it wasn't that bad' or worse, 'I never hit you'. Get the estimates and make her pay up now. If she hesitates, call the insurance company immediately. Sorry, but I don't trust anyone when it comes to stuff like this. A few days will pass, and she'll deny accountability.

Just a friendly recommendation.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll have to see if I can leave early from work to get to a body shop.

I have pics of the incident, pics of her insurance papers, sorry no pics of her (she was ok).

I have a txt from her stating she accepts fault.

Thanks

damn, another kbp that got hit this year, mine got side swiped on the entire right side in March. Fresh new paint and it looks better (they got 4 dents out that were there before). Call the insurance agency asap and file your claim. Take it to YOUR shop not theirs, their shop will low ball you.

I'm in no way saying to avoid a police report, or dealing with insurance, but now keep in mind if you do either of those you will likely just have tagged your car with a vehicle accident history on its report. I know it sucks even with super minor things like this, but it could make selling your car much more difficult with an accident history report from autocheck or carfax.

she gouged it from what i can tell. see what the body shop says. repair will be $400 or so, replace will be $700 or so (assuming no other damage).

honestly, carfax is not something to worry about. you got tagged. a lot of body shops won't report to carfax. and insurance usually won't report unless the damage is above a certain amount ($1k or so).
