Chad, this is OT, but since you asked, it's not the first 5, it's the first 4 which are directed toward actions we take that affect our relationship with God the Father. For instance, commandment #1 is 'You shall have no other gods before Me.' The 'Me' is God.

The last 6 are directed toward actions that we take which directly affect other humans. For instance, commandment #6 says, 'You shall not murder.'

I think you're misreading what the Commandments are. My avatar doesn't say "God vs. Man". The first four are directed towards actions directly affecting God, and the last six are directed toward actions directly affecting man.

They aren't meant to be extreme/absolute limitations. They're guidelines to living life, for the believer. Of course these guidelines were all from God to man. No, it's not a "preferred" way to live, the Commandments provide the ONLY way to live for the believer. I don't know if I'm understanding you properly when you say it's not a "preferred" way to live, or it's an "extreme" limitation?
