Range indicator??
Range indicator??
The question I have involves the range indicator on the MID. The problem I'm having is that the range is dropping down to around 30 and the gas light comes on, so I obviously fill the tank. For the last three fill-ups I have only been able to put around 13 or so gallons before the tank is full. If im not mistaken that means there should still have been about 4 or so gallons left in the tank. Then why the gas light and range indicator being so low. I average about 19 mpg mainly city. I have only 1700 miles on the car. Any thoughts??
Here's a bunch of stuff from the 3G Garage that will answer all your questions.

Better be safe then stuck in the middle of nowhere or worse in a very bad neighbourhood with no gas in the tank!
Also, please keep in mind that running any recent car dry is a very bad idea.
The fuel pump in the tank relies on the gasoline to keep cool and also going to the bottom with suck up wathever dirt builded up over time as everytime you put gas in the car, a little bit of dirt/water get into the tank from the underground gas station reservoirs.
This in turn will seriously affect the lifetime of that gas pump in our cars.

It's not dead-on accurate, but it's still pretty reliable.

I have seen my car's empty light come on with more than 1/3 the tank's capacity of fuel in it. The MID said the car would go about 50 more miles. I was averaging 12 MPG that day.
I got out of the track, re-setted the MID and after driving back to the hotel for about 10 minutes, the MID indicated 150 miles and the light was off.
