ran over some disgusting stuff on the freeway, still smells HELP!

hey guys, i was on my way to the acura dealership for my B service today when all of a sudden the front cars suddenly slowed down a lot. for 50 feet ahead of me in both lanes were some yellow chunky NASTY ASS CRAP all over the road, but everyone just slowly drove over it. RIGH AFTER i pass it the WORST SMELL YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE crept into my cabin through the a/c. it smelled so freaking horrible, like rotten fish mixed with feces or something.

i got to the dealer and the service manager wont even touch the car because of the smell. i had to go next door to the car wash, PAID 60 bucks for just washing the udnerside of the car, and finally let me service it.

now im just freaknig pissed off right now, because the smell is still there, albeit fainter. i called CHP to see if they found who dropped that crap on the road, because im going up to their doorstep finding them liable for the shit it did to my car.

i dont nkow how to get rid of this nasty smell, i tried blasting my A/C for a few minutes to circulate the air but its not helping. any suggestions?

interesting. i ran over a dead carcass today and it stunk up my car as well....here's what you do. u spray some cologne on your finger, then you wipe some on your upper lip hitler style. then you're good to go.

+1 for me. my car smells like sour meat

I have run over pig piss once [a semi carried a load of pigs and for some reason, dumped a whole shit load of piss at the intersection I was driving by].

the smell didn't go away even after 4-5 washes and it lasted about 1 week.

those fkers.

Wait is the smell there only when you turn the AC on or just in the car normally?

What kind of pissed me off was that Acura didn't touch your car afterwards? My mom's lexus, when she turned it on a couple months back, somehow a rodent got into the engine bay and lets just say blood and guts galore. So we took it to the dealer to get it checked out and what not and they cleaned it for us and everything. They took a fee, but still.

This is one of those classic threads that you don't find anywhere but Acurazine. Wish I had the magical solution to help you but all I know is to wash the car as best you can - which you've already had done. But $60 to wash the underside of the car? Are you sure they didn't spill whatever that was to gain business and make a fortune?

yeah 60 dollars was pretty bullshit of a price, but no one knew what the heck it was cus it was a smell no one ever experienced before. the service maanger told me he cant put his mechanics under that kind of atmosphere, because the fumes might be toxic. the only thing im pissed is that the smell is still there....

the only reason why i didnt go back home to clean it off myself was because the car wash was right next door to the dealer, and i didnt want to drive all the way back home and try to make it on time for my service appointment.

That sucks but it is hilarious at the same time. Now I'm going to avoid everything in the road that looks mad weird because you never know when it might just be the worst smell that you have ever smelt in your whole life.

Only thing I can suggest is Wash, Wash, Wash, replace ALL of your filters and Wash some more. Focus on anything that may hold onto whatever the crap was (hood liner, wheel well liner, etc).

GL.

Yeah.. when something goes wrong that the dealership isn't responsible for, blame the dealership!

No wonder we have problems trying to get warranty items replaced.

seriously though... I suggest finding somewhere that has a bay jack for a couple of thorough undercarriage power washes.

My sense is that the previous wash did not get it all. If it is sulfur-based waste, water will react with it to create a mild acidic liquid of equally irritating smell - until it is eventually all washed away.

In addition to replacing the cabin air filters above (with charcoal filters) your best friend is 2 things:

1) Arm & Hammer Baking powder
2) Fabric Softener

liberal doses of 1) everywhere
an open box of 2) under both seats overnight. (i've actually heard this makes a good air freshner in general - tip from the wash & wax section)

/edit. I couldnt help laughing about this as well

I agree to do the cabin air filters and I might have to try that dryer sheet thing. Those smell so good.

LMAOOO!! I'm sorry man. This is kinda funny.

Speaking of the smell of fart and what has been described. It definatelly sounds like some sort of sulfur. You can get this same smell when your fuel is running too lean or your catalytic converter is about to crap out. It smells like rotten eggs. If this is the case I'd listen to the guy about hosing the shit out of your undercarriage until that smell goes away. Sulfur is a horrible smell. I had a cat that deteriorated and my car could be smelled from a mile away. People looked at me like I let loose the worlds greatest fart. LMAOO!

First I am really sorry about the smell! But holy cow, this is got to be one of the best explanations for a smell I have ever read. I am sorry to admit, but I could not stop laughing. Good luck and hope you get the smell out. Get under it with a hose and just rinse the hell out of it. If you can, leave it outside with the windows cracked to vent any interior smell and change the cabin filter, as the smell will get trapped in that an will never get out.

Sorry guys, but I really don't see the humor.

Some truck (probably not to be found and held responsible) releases a noxious substance. Meanwhile, the taxpayers will have to pay to clean it up and who knows how many people got their cars fucked up because of it.

Say a truck drops a couple of tons of Yellow paint on the freeway and you drive through it. How long are you gonna be laughing then? And would you want me laughing at you? - "HAHA! look at the yellow spots on your car. You'll never get that shit off. " ??

I'm thinking you'd be pretty fucking pissed off - at the perpetrator AND at me.

The OP doesn't even know what it is. How long will it last? Is it hazardous? Corrosive? Will it rot hoses or seals? Brake lines and tires? Will it ruin the resale of his car? Who knows?

, but it don't sound real funny to me.

okay update. the cabin doesnt smell anymore, but in a 45 degree angle around the front wheels you can still smell it albeit not so strong. whats funny is that tomorrow im getting my rotors resurfaced and pads changed, so when they take off the front wheels they are in for a surprise.. i just hope they dont drop my wheels in reaction to the smell

imo take pics of your wheels so you can show they were "undamaged" before entering the shop!

Whoa there! I don't think anyone's laughing AT the OP or the bad things that may have happened to people's cars. I think the laughter stems from some of these descriptions of smells and things...they're HILARIOUS! That's the comedy of the thread...just its "literary" conten. At the end of the day, I feel the OP's pain of having to get this crap off his car and know how upset I'd be, but I can't ignore the creative descriptions offered up by many of the posters.

Did you manage to get a sample of whatever it was? It might help locating the source if you had some idea what it was. If your state has a department of environmental protection (DEP), they would take the sample and run it thru a lab. Stuff like that on the highway is not only gross...it could be toxic waste....very very illegal. Around here, in Pennsylvania, we have horse shit to deal with from those Amish Buggies. It's everywhere along the side of the road where the horses ride. Let me tell you, fresh horse shit doesn't smell very good. The only good thing about it is that it doesn't last too long....basically turns to straw or mulch in a few days.

Had a friend once who ran over a body on route 66 in Annandale, VA. Yes a human body. He saw it at the last moment before hitting it. A few miles down the highway, he pulled off to an industrial area to inspect his car and saw some bits of flesh and blood spatter in his wheel wells. Back he went to the incident spot and by the time he got there, some Fairfax County police had beat him to it. He approached an officer and said, "I think I hit that". The officer replied, "You and everyone else". Mike told me it was so torn up, you couldn't determine the sex. The police thought it either jumped or fell from the route 236 overpass into moving traffic on 66.

Not a fun time.
