Rainwater collecting in odd places
With all the recent rains here in new england, I've found a few spots on the car where it seems like the water likes to get trapped. Anyone notice collection of water in these spots:
1) Trunk lid. When you open the trunk, any pooled water on the trunk falls into the little trough that has the rubber seal for the trunk, but it pools about halfway down. Eventually I think the water flows out of here as the car is accelerated.
2) Very bottom of the inside driver's side door where the door metal is curled inward. There is a small hole here where I see water coming out every once in awhile.
3) Finally, this morning I lift my hood to clear out some debris around the wipers and I get some water flowing out on the inside front of the hood right behind where the plastic grille is. This one kinda sucks because when you don't expect it, the water splashes down onto the alternator and other areas.
I'm not whining about this, but I've never had a car that has collected water in these spots, except for maybe the trunk. Whether or not the water gets out of the other 2 areas I don't know, but if it is getting trapped, it can't be good. I'll have to see how long I can see water coming out of these areas, especially after the car has been dry for a couple days.

I have the same problem with #2. It's not only the driver side door, it's almost every door. If I spray a strong stream of water on the car, there's water trapped under the acura kick plate by the doors. If you squeeze the kickplate you'll see water come out. It also leaves a dirty color after it dries.

No. 2 will do that every time.

I have #1 and #2 (and probably #3 too but I've never opened the hood ). I agree with Thorin and Ron A that #2 is all doors. There is at least a #4 - inside the gas cap door, either after a crazy hard rain or after washing the car. All these areas probably dry over time not so much by acceleration but rather by good old evaporation. They ARE annoying, but what can do you? Mop 'em up, wipe 'em down, move 'em out, yee haa.

I really noticed #1, which is especially bad in the snow. When it snowed here a couple months back, I did not completely clean my rear windshield and a whole pile of snow slid right into the trunk when I opened it. I will not make that mistake again.

Yes, I know I have all of 3. Besides, I hate to roll down my driver-side window in the rainy days, the water is just falling down inside your car... :o

Sometimes water just gets in nooks and crannies and nothing can be done about it. The real issue is how well the water gets out. The designers build in drains in different places, especially the doors since they do take on so much water. As long as it gets out, OK. They even design in sumps with drains in the mirrors so the mirrors drain and the door does not get wet when you drive away from a wash. Not really sump, kinda a little trough. You have valid points about everything, though.

I have these water spots on the top of the trunk from the last rain. I haven't taken rubbing compound to it yet, but it does work fairly well to get rid of the water spots (from past rains).

The water that I seem to notice a lot pools near the trunk. Don't know what the area is called, but its that little "ledge" above the rear bumper in which the trunk closes onto. If you look at the back of the car, the back of the car below the trunk extends further than the trunk, so it creates a little ledge. This is where I see water accumulation, and if it dries you need to clean the area.
