RAGE *Vent* RAGE

So I was on my way in to work today, everything going just as happy as can be when suddenly, some f$%&ing doucher in a Mercedes mini-van strafes across 2 lanes of traffic from the left turn lane to the right traffic lane.

He was literally within inches of me so I slammed on the brakes and swerved to avoid him and clipped the curb with my right rear wheel. Nice 3-4 inch section of gouged and rashed wheel on my otherwise pristine TL.

I tried to get the plate but he had a paper dealers plate in his window and in Iowa, they don't show a distinctive identifier. So I tried to follow him but he managed to make it through the next light and I got stuck.

I called up my insurance agent and he said nothing they could do without a plate number to work with unless I wanted to pay my deductible. Granted...$250 to get a new wheel is almost worth it to me but it is the principle of the damned thing.

Anyway, just whining and bitching about what has already turned into an absolute shit week so far.

sorry about the crappy way to start out the week.

yes there are plenty more a$$holes like that one out there. i've encountered them, but no harm was done, thankfully.

i've had a few where i cautiously pull away from a light anticipating that the driver next to me would do something stupid...and sure enough they do...like cut off 3 lanes of traffic, turning Lt. from the furthest Rt. lane or Rt. from the furthest Lt. lane.

oddly i have more people do dick moves when i drive the MDX vs the TL. i'm not doing anything except driving and they cut me off or drive like an a$$.

think of it this way...the week can only get better.

be careful out there and keep your eyes peeled.

There are soooo many idiots out there. I see at least 3 every day. Its the reason I:
A) Love how safe my Acura is
and
B) will never drive a motorcycle. I need 4 metal walls around me for protection!

Remember to leave plenty of space and drive responsibly and hopefully you can avoid most of these situations.
I think the $250 deductible is worth paying in this case.

Ill prob get flamed for it.. but try ebay for a new rim... I bought one from ebay because I git a massive pothole and bent the rim.. Looks oem to me and rides just as good as the others from the factory.. cost me 150$ shipped to my door with tpms designed rim, even cheaper if you dont have tpms

You could also go online on Google and look up 'wheel refinishing' and your zip code if it's just a scrape/ gouge in the wheel (to find a shop local to you). I accidentally curbed one of my wheels 2 years ago and had it professionally refinished for $150, and it looked as new.

Sorry to hear about your incident but if you did get the plate# then what? Call the police, they show up,you give them the plate# & they track down the other driver & they tell the officer: "I didn't cause an accident today, I didn't cut off another vehicle" Case closed, because it's your word against theirs unless you have witnesses. The system sucks, nobody does anything wrong driving, nobody is at fault, unless a cop actually witnesses it. Thats why people drive like Aholes, because they know they can get away with it.
Here in NJ a cop wouldn't give a flying crap if a car is cutoff, they'd take down your info & that's all. He/She won't go off trying to catch the other driver even if you have a plate#. All that person has to do is hire a lawyer then you'll find yourself in court up against them testifying.
People suck.

sucks...i might not do it when it actually happens IRL

but in my mind I'm willing to let my car be damaged at the cost of the other driver at least a little esp when it's his fault. Dude with a new Merc should be taught a lesson.

Plus it's an excuse to get a new bumper/fender, etc.

Sux, OP.

That's exactly why I lay on my horn and hold my ground, at most swerving to either side of my own lane or easing the brakes. If they hit me, they hit me, but I'm not gonna get a flat from roadside debris, sideswipe another car myself, get into the gravel and spin out, panic-stop to avoid them only to get rear-ended myself, etc. while they drive off with no accountability because they're the idiot behind the wheel.

For many years, I drive expecting people to do dumb things while driving. In fact, I plan for the unexpected and am ready (I know you can't be 100% ready, as in a rear hit collision), and it has worked for me so far. You pretty much have to lose target fixation when driving and 'scan for stupidity'. It happened today as the numbnuts on my right was on his cellphone and was adjusting his GPS at the same time and drifts into my lane. No horn on my part, I just let him in and didn't lose my cool. It's just not worth raising my blood pressure for some fool who inevitably will drive himself off the road one day.

instinct is to avoid...I don't blame him and instead of a possibly serious accident...you ended up with a rashed rim. It definitely SUCKS! Might be cheaper to have it repaired? Or maybe just save up and eventually get rims now that you have an excuse.

on the way to work this morning i encountered a mid-age smoking woman driving her 06-08 civic like a punk. she cut ppl off like crazy and as i was cruising to a red light she was right behind my ass. i mean i would show her some respect if it was a fast car but damn the way she drives that CIVIC just pissed me off so bad. i was about to slam on the gas to catch up with her then cut her off and slam on the brake.

but luckily my anger went away pretty fast and i realized it doesn't worth it

in the end, there are too many retarded drivers out there, it's just impossible to care

Yeah police around here (have several friends on the local forces) would only do something if witness had actually stopped. I didn't bother calling it in. I called my insurance agent to explore what options I had with them but oh well.

I usually do hold my ground and lay on the horn but then I am also usually expecting it to be the guy next to me that has been drifting closer and closer for the last 3 blocks...not the guy that is almost stopped in the left hand turn lane with me 2 lanes away in the right hand travel lane. It was sudden...less than a second or two from nearly a stop to him full throttle across traffic and in front of me.

As stated in the original post, I couldn't have gotten a plate number. It still had a dealer paper plate in the window which means he just bought it. Here, onlike most states that have a distinctive number on those plates, you can only see the expiration date of the temp tag and the dealer number of the issuing dealership. Sort of pointless unless it was like an AMD SLK500 or something rare like that.

I will look into repair. I have been looking at getting winter tires for the stock wheels and getting a set of RonJons or something...but then that will open up a modding can of worms I have been hesitant to open. Hehe.

Same thing happened to me in my Infiniti a few years back. I actually followed the guy and was able to keep up with him very easily. Pulled up next to him and asked him to pull over and of course he wouldn't. Called the police while following him and they told me to stop following him. When I contacted the insurance company later on and gave the plate number they called him up and of course he denied everything so in the end I was shit out of luck as well.

That sucks OP....

Post some pix up....I hope you get it repaired....you can buy stock rims on the forum for 200-300 bux and type-s rims for 400-500 (tires not included)....

if the damage is not too bad (no bents and only long scratches) then you can get the rims powder coated and they will come out looking brand new

5 years ago while driving I got cutoff twice by a young woman in the right lane who was cutting in and out of lanes, the 2nd time she cut me off she nearly slammed into me! When I caught up to her I swerved my car at hers, well she followed me for a mile & when I stopped out came her badge, she was a county sheriffs detective going to work & issued me a ticket. It didn't matter what I said or how I saw her drive, she was bent on giving me a ticket.
My advice? If you encounter any crazy driver out there just stay away because you don't know who you're dealing with.

How much does something like that cost? And is it similar to a police dash cam?

^you've never heard of the go pro camera?

its like 200-300 dollars and literally you can take it on the go.
you can buy attachments for it, so that you can mount on your car, on a helmet, etc.
there was even one person who attached it to the end of a sword, while he did crazy sword swings and stuff.
the video is insane because of the POV.

look it up! Go pro HD!

lol happened to me so many times until 1 day i was in a really bad mood. Some crazy lady cut me off super close then i cut her off and slammed on the brakes. She swirved, got next to me flipped me off. After she did that, i cut her off again and she quickly moved to the other lane even when i wasn't planning on slamming the brakes again lol. That actually made my day besides i was looking towards a new bumper paint job if she would've hit me . You should never follow someone less than 2 cars range hehe.

nah dont provoke her by doing that..you're just increasing the chances of causing an accident that will ruin many more days than just your own.

I saw these two jokers going at it on the crowded 405 N during rush hour, cutting each other off, brake checking, and weaving between cars. I was just waiting for one of them to crash.

Just leave them be.

Trust me i know better, she did it on purpose. It was a plain highway with me and her only. It was very stupid for her to cut me off on a 3 lane highway . On a traffic highway I wouldn't even dare, you never know how much of a fool the person next to you may be.

I can't believe how many of you guys make a conscious decision to intentionally (after being 'wronged') swerve into other cars.

ive had similar situations occur by tonight just sucked by all measures. First i was on I-95 going towards the GW bridge back to jersey and a tractor trailer side swiped me and drove away. Luckily i got the truck number and plate number. I was going to pull over but lanes were closed and the traffic flow was too heavy. Then i got a speeding ticket which the officer said is due to a problem with my speedometer because it said i was going 45 and my service light was going off. To top it all off ive been getting random nosebleeds for days and now they are accompanied by headaches and im pretty sure a fever. Fuck cops!!! who would give a speeding ticket after they realize there was a speedometer problem? I didnt even know speedometer really malfunction but i guess it happens

in response to ggesq i also did that kinda. After i got the ticket i was going the speed limit or maybe 3-5 over and some audi was tailing me obviously pissed i was going slow for him. I intentionally brake checked him twice thinking hmmm a new rear bumper would be nice if he pays for it. He backed off though so i guess i accomplished my goal

My ticket was for careless driving! She stood there ragging at me but when I said: "YOU were weaving in and out of lanes & cut me off twice" Her reply was: I don't know what you're talking about. My ex wife was on her deathbed from a terminal illness, I was under tremendous stress & worried about my 2 young children, not a good day. I wasn't in a good mood at that time & she just made it worse.
I hired a lawyer for $300, went to court & got it reduced to unsafe driving (no points) but the fine was another $200+ so I had spent over $500 because some bitch was playing games.
