Radiator cap replacement
Radiator cap replacement
Hi,
Dealer charged me $85 to replace the radiator cap...
I'have had a coolant spill on a very hot day (118F), from the reservoir before, so I thought the cap may not have pressurized the system properly and why it shot everywhere in the engine compartment..
So I approved it for $85!
But looking online, the OEM cap can be bought for at most $30!
Is that really the case? (really OEM?)
and if so did i just get charged almost 3x for this??
thanks,

Look at pricing on cars. They buy the car...and sell it for what they want....not MSRP.
They also have to charge for labour.
They also warranty their work.
And they'll top off the coolant.
And maybe wash your car.
They also have service writers to pay, a facility to maintain, etc.
All that adds up go $85 for a $30 part.
Not a big surprise. And you shouldn't be upset about any of the above.
You can find the part online, yes. Lots of dealer wholesale sites exist. Curryacuraparts.com, bernardiparts.com, acuraoemparts.com, etc etc etc
Its obviously going to be cheaper to DIY.
The other thing is this was part of a bigger job so went under my radar...
evaporator purge valve $300
engine air intake boot $178
(so this slipped a little more scrutiny, plus i had a coolant spray episode before last year)
