I am going to purchase an Escort 8500 and have it hardwired. Where would you suggest placing the unit? Up high by the rear view mirror and then have the wire routed through the headliner and down the A-Pillar?

Thanks in advance for your input!

It is as incrementally better performing as the price is greater than the competition. But like I said, don't take my word for it. Go to any auto forum (Viper, Ferrari, Acura, Vette, BMW, Porsche, Benz, etc) it doesn't matter. They all endorse the V1.

There is no other product that I can think of that is so universally praised and accepted.

I use and advocate the V1, but I have to disagree with its universal acceptance.

In my experience, there is almost a 50-50 split between V1 proponents and Passport 8500 proponents. Each side cites the comparisons more favorable to their favorite model, and the various features.

As best I can tell, the V1 offers better range, but the 8500 has less false alarms.

I'll take range over false alarms, but YMMV.

I think we can agree to disagree. I would put the split at around 80/20. Just for fun, put a post on bimmer.org or audiworld.com and see how many V1/8500 answers you get.

I agree with on the false alarm thing. The way I see it, if my V1 is picking up a door opener that happens to be the exact same freq as a police radar, then it's doing it's job. It's the responsibility of me, the driver, to use the arrows and bogey counter to process that information and act accordingly.

IMHO, the 8500 gives you a "dumb downed" radar picture. The V1, for better or worse, throws a lot more data at you.

Maybe I need a RIO to help me?

If you have a V1 and a Lidatek, you are probably as covered as possible.
