Raced a bmw 540i 6mt

We went from 75mph to 145mph, I know kinda high to start off but that was the race. By 145mph he was like 3 cars ahead, that thing was a beast! The only mod he has is exhaust.

I started in 3rd gear and he said he started in 4th. As soon as we hit the gas I pulled like half a car and then it was over. He just kept pulling and pulling away, figures V8 with plenty of torque. I wasn't surprised with the outcome...unless maybe you guys think otherwise.

Although both E39s have top ends somewhere around 150mph, the 540i will get there a TON faster than the 530i.

That said, good death and the results are as I would have expected. Be careful out there though.

The JPipe and catback makes a huge difference.

Tyler and I kinda race once in a while and he pulls on me after 2nd gear and he is gone. He has full boltons minus the precats and all I have is intake and Stage 3 setup.

Engine 4.4L V-8
Horsepower 290 @ 5,400 rpm
Torque
324 lb-ft. @ 3,600 rpm

and it weighs 4048 pounds

that's almost 100 lb-ft torque more then out TL's....ouch

I'm sure with a J-pipe / catback the gap will be closer than 3 cars .. but I still don't think you'll win.

From a dead stop, he would murder you.

Try racing from 30 / 40mph roll?

145mph.. yeah if you keep racing at those speeds there's definitely gonna be a death alright. Definitely try a roll from 30 but for everyone's sake, keep it off the street / traffic & below 100mph.

I suppose you can find solace in knowing that said race won't result in your thruster arm bushing dying faster, radiator fan exploding, gaskets leaking, or any other of the 11nty-billion known defects on the e39.

Amazing vehicles, but GOD are they maintenance intensive. I am closing the deal this week on my TL, I switched last minute from a 540 M-Sport after reading innumerable threads on bimmerforums of their atrocious quality.

Good death...but you shall have the longer life.

I've always had a soft spot for the older 5-series. They look sportier than the new models; the E60s look more like luxury cruisers.

I agree, keep the 100+mph runs on empty 2 lane highways and 2-3 lane interstates. The streets (well paved) are great for runs from a dig tho.

Edit

That is if you did run on the streets

Where the hell have you been.. I thought you bought a TL last year.. lol.. work must be busy. Your statement is so true.. love them when they're in warranty.. hate them when they're out.. Bleed My Wallet. Besides the rattles & a few minor issues.. the TL has been a joy, you wont regret the TL, any details about the new ride?

I usually never take my car that high, I try and keep the racing to the track. But once in a while the adrenalin kicks in and I do some serious speeding...not good I know

Empty highway in the evening and it was straight for about a good mile. I'll never race on the street...that's asking for jail time.

Me too. I'm not a BMW fan but I'd take a white E39 like this (without the black thing around the car):

I've found that purchasing a reliable vehicle also tends to save one large sums of money.

Don't say that, everyone has different taste. When you say that, don't you think other people will say your car is butt as well? Then the hating keeps on going. I do agree there are cars that are not so attractive but then I will keep that to myself. Also with your statement, what if in the next couple of generations would it be an oxymoron because the present models are being dated?

huh.. I've had 2 BMW's in the family (740i & 530i).. I didn't like them because the repair bill on them mounted considerably.. I remember I went to fill my tank on the 530i and the effin gas cover snapped off.. cheap plastic hinge broke in half and cost $100 for a replacement. Even though I wouldn't buy one out of principle.. If I was offered a trade in for this 2k M3 beauty.. done deal.

well I will have to disagree with you there. To me the older style was better for BMW. What about the old 8 series!? That was the best looking BMW IMO! Also the previous 7 series body blows the new style away IMO. The recent 7 series for the past years is very unattractive.

The styling of the most recent 7-series doesn't sit well with me - the proportions don't seem right.

And yeah, I love the older M3s. They really are beautiful cars.

hey.. wtf? lol.. I like it.. I don't like that an $70k car drops in value to less than $20k in ~5 years.. yeah I've only seen two 850i's up close but they're an attn grabber..

try light weight pulley, and sprint booster. acceleration response increases. sprint booster feels like 30-40horses/torque. trust.

Which one, the one I got 3 years ago or the one I got 3 weeks ago? Both have been good to me.

My Integra is very reliable it will take me to work without any oil (cant say the same about my M3s), but it didnt last when I beat on it like I do my other two M3s, just not made to take that kind of abuse out the box. The same goes for my friends TL, who stayed in Texas one more day to get his car serviced because he drove it too hard and didnt want to drive it back like that.

My point is you can either drive something till it breaks and replace it or you can replace it before it breaks. Even my moms Lincoln LS is pretty reliable, so stop trying to hide that reliability bs, there is no perfect car make.
