Quoted 7-8K to Replace Transmission

07 type S MT. I have way too much into this already and only owned the car for less than 10k miles. The transmission is shot and desperate to find a solution to fix this. I was quoted by a trans show where they found one reman trans but still a roll of the dice. What options are there for this? I had an H22 once and almost did an H2B, are there options like that for the TL?

I am in upstate SC open to any option really. I hate to spend that much on a reman that they can’t even guarantee will be good

thanks
Matt

Here is another roll of the dice found at a car-part.com salvage yard north of you?
Give them a call to check the mileage interval and shipping to your shops location.

Just curious, what is the cost itemization breakdown of the $7-8K quote? Seems kind of high.
Finding out the cost of the reman. unit shipped would help determine if they are overcharging you on labor.
Good Luck!

Also want to know what you did to the trans? A true trans failure in the MT is not a common theme. A clutch failure, yes....but an actual failed transmission is not common.

Get a second opinion. TL 6spds aren't very complex.

Closest thing to h2b is j2k; the one's who use those are people building awd 90s civics.

I had my base auto rebuilt a year ago, it was $3200 and he did a great job. He told me a manual rebuild would be almost double.

I’ve had this car less than a year and have barely driven it. Never once have popped the clutch or spun tires. Any damage would have been from prior owner though it was an older gentleman with a great service record. I think I’m going to walk away from it and sell in its current state. I just dropped over $10,000 into this car and now it needs a transmission. Just not something I have the time to deal with since this is my only car. This was the second shop I took it too and without tearing it apart they agree it needs a new one or rebuild.

I already have more into this than anyone should for a 2007 and want to cut the loss down to what it is.

Your best bet is to roll the dice with used unit to keep the cost down. The rebuilt cost are high not because the 6spd are complex, it because the lack of mechanic who know how to work in manual trans nowadays. They are like dime in a dozen in the transmission industry.

Just curious what your trans do that led to the conclusion of needing a replacement/rebuilt?
