Quiestions on Brakes for a 6speed.

Hey, guys. Iam upgrading my brakes on my 6-speed. I bought the car with 57k 2 years ago now the car has 97 k and i thought the pads were worn, but when i took out the pad they still had have their life. Unfortunately, i already bought Hawk HPS pads. They stop very good, but the brake dust is uncontrollable. I still have the OEM brembo pads, but will purchase brand new ones.

The Set-up i was thinking was PowerSlot Rotors all the way around and OEM pads.

Any suggestions or comments?

Thank you.

The OEM pads are going to dust badly. You may want to go with another brand. I haven't changed mine yet, but I am going to try CMAX Gold ceramic pads from Autozone. Heard some good things about them and very low dust. Welcome to AZ

see any of the 100 recent discussions on pad and rotor choices
Brake dust is just braking in action

Wash the rims on both sides then apply 3 coats synthetic car wax to them and buff to a nice shine
That will keep most of the dust from adhering

Oh and don't use OEM pads, they will create a tons of brake dust! Get ceramics. Powerslot rotors are also very good.

Ok I have a question that I could not find an answer to so I figured I'd hijack this thread.

For those that do not have a place to do brakes (I have done them numerous times before but move to an apartment) how do I find a good place to do them? I like the Duralast pads. You think if I buy them I could get someone to install them and turn the rotors? Thanks. Sorry for the hijack. You may return to your previously scheduled program.

BigJack, are you by chance military? If so most bases have an auto hobby shop. You can do your brakes there. They may even be able to turn the rotors for you. If not, try a local brake or repair shop and give them the brake pads you want to use. I haven't done my brakes yet, but it seems pretty easy. Perhaps you can do them at a friends house.

If you can hijack two parking spots in your complex for about an hour, you can do it in the parking lot.

turning the stock rotors is asking for a vibration- they suck new-- and when you cut them they suck even worse~
For the cost of new ones and the differance in quality--get new rotors
of decent quality. dont have to buy the $120 each fronts but they are nice!!

Everyone- reminder- flush the brake fluid every year to avoid costly problems and restore firm brake pedal
Do it BEFORE doing any type of pad/rotor replacement so you have only clean fluid in the system
Failure to do so allows microscopic rust particles to get sloshed around and cut the oring thats the piston seal for the caliper
happens more often than you think!

Brake fluid is cheap- better stopping is a good thing~

Yes- many private shops will install parts you bought but cant offer warranty on the parts since they didnt provide them..its a legal issue and profit for risk to them

look in the phone book - auto repairing- for a small ad with image of an acura or honda shown as one of their specialties.

Call the local high school/trade school -do they have an auto shop program?

I'd say stick with OEM, it's the best. You might get less dust on some others, but also lose out on some performance. Sometimes you just need those extra milliseconds of stopping power.
