Quick transmission question

My car has been shifting hard from 1>2>3 for a good while now, I just noticed today that if completely stopped and using sport shift from 1>2 I feel no shift bump, Is this to be expected? or could it help point more clearly to the reason for my hard shifts.

Theres a wealth of info on 5A transmissions on this site. When is the last time you did a 3X3 flush and changed the pressure switches? very important on these transmissions.

Do the 07-08's need the switches replaced as well? I read about the switches a long time ago but I didn't really get a consensus on if it's that important for the newer trannys. The 3x3 flush is another I haven't seen directly recommended for the 07-08, any insight?

07-08 or not I also experience the same issue with a brand new 2014, 2013 tl only have 1100 miles on the clock, it seem the sensor is a must and yeah 3x3 help to smooth thing out, I did 3x4 with my tl and now shifting seem smoother than before. Next on the list is the switches.

The pressure switches are a good maintenance item, they are relatively inexpensive.
If you've never drained and refilled the tranny, and there's no record of the previous owner flushing or draining.. I would have it flushed(not drain/refill). It's probably got more metal in it than an iron mine.

Acura says NOT to pressure flush the transmission, the factory service manual says to do drain and refill only and that would be 3X1 at least. Try this link to start https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/optimal-percentage-racing-atf-834299/

Also curious about this dilemma. I have an 07 type s with 43500 miles, should I even be worried about this? I purchased the car from an elderly couple and was dealer maintained. They told me that they brought the vehicle in every time the MID said to go in. Dealership even vouched for them providing a sheet stating what needed to be done, if it was even done and an inspection. Everything looked good apart from brake pads. What should i be looking for on this sheet? It mentions nothing of a 3x3 flush. I baby my vehicles a lot so if its needed, even for the sake of preventative measures ill do it. Since I'm not mechanically inclined I'll be going back to the dealership for this service.

1) What do I tell them exactly? That I need a 3x3 flush and to change the pressure switch?
2) Should i be specific as to which fluid and switch i want? Granted ill do this only if it will better off my tl in the long run.
3) Or do they do this service when i reach 62000 miles?

Honestly just do a drain and refill with every oil change. You'll be fine. Most of us on here follow this schedule.
What ATF you use is up to you. I'm using 33% D4 / 66% Type-F

Im new to this whole 3x3 process and i know there are hundreds of these threads so please be patient with me. Im use to just going into the dealership at a set interval for my vehicle and lets say i needed my atf changed, id leave it for them to work on, pick up my car later on in the day and just drive off. However, from what your telling me i can simply go to a Jiffy Lube, get them to change my oil/filter and request them to do a drain/refill of my atf fluid (as long as they are the same specs as oem)? I use full synthetic oil so i continue to do this from now at 4350 mile intervals?

I don't believe there is a set interval for the pressure switches and most people seem to start changing them once they notice problems, so as preventative maintenance, I would say every 30-50k miles would be a good estimate.
As far as the transmission fluid change goes, I personally think every 4350 miles, or oil change, would be to often, unless you are trying to work out a problem, especially if you are paying to have it done that can be expensive. It will take a few drains to get all the old fluid out so you could speed up the interval initially but once it starts to run a good red color I can't see the reason it would need to be done too often. I do mine every 10-15k miles so maybe every other oil change would be good. The main concern I would have in your case is the type of fluid jiffy lube is putting in, Besides honda fluid the only other fluids that get recommended on this forum are probably not being carried by oil change shops. So maybe bring your own fluid or have it done by honda. The uncertainty of what an oil change shop is actually putting into my car is why I started changing fluids myself.

Perfect I am using the same ratio of Redline in my 06 with new switches, and the shifting is perfect with almost no black gunk on the drain plug.

Changing the switches is an easy DIY job on a 04-06 TL, here's the how to link; https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/110-diy-guide-replacing-3rd-4th-gear-pressure-switch-3g-tl-2004-2006-a-729149/

2014 TL has a 6spd auto trans so no, it's not the same issue.... totally different unit... They are leaps and bounds better than the 5at that they replaced....

As I can't find any local shops that carry Redline here ill be join to the dealership and will be grabbing the oem Dw1 fluid. Cant go wrong with oem anyways. As for the pressure switches, do i simply ask for the 3rd and 4th switch at the dealership? Their isn't a 1st, 2nd or 5th switch? (noob i know lol) I only ask as it corresponds to our 5 geared tranny's.

On the 04-06 TL's there is only a 3rd and 4th pressure switch and the cost on line at an Acura dealer is $38.44 each and take about 30 mins. to change. The Redline ATF can be ordered on line at Summit Racing or Amazon and retails around $11 per Qt. Not cheap but far less than a new transmission.. Check the links I posted on#7 & 14 they will tell you where the switches are and how to change them and give you some insight as to why you don't want to use Acura ATF although I understand the newer DW-1 is better than the old stuff by a lot,you could use straight Redline D4 or D6 if you have cold temps, same fluid just D6 has a bit lower viscosity.

For overused transmission fluid, it's even more important to do a drain and refill. You do a flush with the fluid in that condition and you will surely kill the transmission. The drain/refill method is what Honda recommends, no matter what state the fluid is in. This has been covered over and over on this forum.

I myself am a firm believer in using the OEM fluid, Honda's DW-1. It's made specifically for our transmissions.

Also, changing the fluid at every oil change is good if you're doing a 3x3. If not, 30k is the max you should go on the same fluid.

The redline fluid is more of a cult following on this forum, I use it, and some "smart" people back it up. However, I would say just as many vouch DW-1. Its more important that you are changing the fluid, which one is open for debate. If you have a dealer nearby I'd say go with that, save yourself any extra trouble

I use the honda dw1 and drain it every 7k miles, dealer wouldn't know what 3x3 mean.
