Quick question about ECM

if you swap out a bad tranny for a functional used one, automatic tranny that is, Does the ECM or anything of that sort need to be reprogrammed? Overheard a conversation/debate about it and am just wondering

i think it would work regardless but I am wondering if it would need to be flashed to work properly ie shift timing. Are there any members on here who work or have worked for acura?
