Extended Powertrain Warranty...

How do I find out what extended warranty a dealer will cover? Here's my dilemma - I'm moving across the US and if my automatic tranny takes a crap somewhere along the way, I want to be sure I'm covered. Any ideas or companies that offer full coverage for the tranny of a vehicle that's out of factory warranty?

If you are using a 3rd party insurance company, the dealer doesn't care and will repair the car and just won't release the vehicle until they get paid. Your battle won't be with the dealer....it will be with the insurance company. We have a 3rd party insurance on my wife's car and it allows for us to take it anywhere we choose for repairs, although they actually recommend taking it to the dealership. We have used it once with no issues/questions/hassles at all. The car was dropped off, diagnosed, dealer called insurance, insurance authorized repairs for $950, dealer repaired, we paid $50 deductible, we left with a repaired car. Easy peasy.

As for suggestions on who to buy a policy through? Sorry...can't help ya there. I can't even remember the company we used. It was some cheeseball one thrown in for cheap by the finance guy that happened to work out in our favor.
