Quick Question about Break-in?
I am picking up my TL tomorrow. I have read that break-in should last until 600 miles and that you shouldn't slam the throttle or the brakes for that matter. Here is my question, what speed should I not go over during break-in? I read 65 mph is the max during break-in, just want to verify.
Just thought of one more, not break-in related, what is the latest DVD version, I would assume the navi will come with the latest but I am not sure.
Thanks!
Hank

You don't need to drive the car like an old lady, drive it like you stole it. I did a proper bedding of the brakes right after I pulled off the lot and I've drive my TL like it had 100,000 miles on it. I don't mean that you should go and do burnouts with the car, but there's no reason to not drive the car like it's meant to be driven.
Good luck and enjoy your new TL.

There is no max speed during break-in. You can go any reasonable speed over 65mph, but the main thing is not to drive too long at any one speed. And don't jam on the brakes either, unless you really really have to.

Oh yeah, I found out the latest navi dvd version, 3.40. Helps to check out the Acura store.

The important part about break-in, is to simply drive the car as Ron has said, not too long at any one speed. Apply the brakes gently, and avoid panic stops.
The second part is to change the factory fill engine oil as soon as you feel comfortable (no later than 3K pref.).
Lastly, a lot of people forget about their Automatic or Manual Transmissions. Those break-in as well. Thus, you need to drain and refill the fluid at <10,000 miles to remove as much manufacturing debris as possible.
Key Word: Drain and Refill
An Exchange is not necessary, a drain/refill is sufficient.

I've had my 05 TL for about two weeks and was tiold not to change the oil untill the trip computer tells me to do so. I 've driven about 1200 miles and the oil still registers 90% life left. Should the first oil cjange be sooner than indicated?

To richard52;
The general opinion (some the product of having had factory fill oil analysis done) it to get the factory fill out of the crankcase around 3000 miles and no later than 4000 miles if possible. I know, the manual specifically tells you to leave the factory fill in on new or replaced engines until the MID tells you to do the change. But it appears you're better off to use the figures I mentioned.
As for transmissions, if you are getting a manual, get the factory fill out of there no later than 10,000 miles (6000 miles is better). I just did mine this morning at 15528 miles and the drain pan looked like I had been panning for gold. Little gold-colored particles all in there (that's the synchronizers shedding metal). Use GM Synchromesh Friction Modified if you do have a manual and trust me.. it's a very simple and clean job. Check out my write up from this morning.
Have fun and enjoy your new baby.

Richard52... This is what i was told as well when i picked up my 05 TL 2 weeks ago. I even asked him if i should get the oil changed a lil early the first go around and he said "No not at all that's what the MID is for. Go by that".

My suggestion is to drain the factory oil @1500 mi, then do it again @5000. At 5,000 miles, also change your ATF fluid. At that point, you can start going by the MID for oil change intervals.

To the new guys; anyone can read the manuel or ask at the dealership. The benefit of asking here is that you can receive documented facts about the fluid changes. If you are even a little anal, search and read about fluid changes and the MID is this forum.
You will find, as most of us have that Michal Wan, RoadRage and SouthernBoy to name a few all do their homework and ours. The information they provide can be trusted imho.
