Question Question on XM Initialization

greetings, everybody!

picked up my tl yesterday. everything is great except the xm radio only has about 5 channels. on my old after-market unit i had to go to xm web site to activate the unit with a credit card, and left the unit on for 1 hour to download all the channels. i understand tl comes with 3 months of service for free. is there anything special the dealer should have done or i need to do to active the unit and receive the free service? will i need to turn on the radio, turn to xm and leave it on for an hour?

any insight is greatly appreciated! can't wait to hear it from the awesome sound system...

Turn your radio to Channel 0.

Call XM Radio and tell them the ID number on the Channel 0 screen.

They will see that you're a TL owner and activate your 3 month service on the spot.

Took mine 35 minutes to pull in all the channels.

Should have been ready for you when you pciked up the car. If you have a problem or do not feel like doing it stop back and let your dealership do it like thwy were supposed to

Make sure you CALL them and don't try to register over the web. If you register over the Web you will be charged from day 1. I found this out the hard way (the dealer never told me what to do to activate it).

Actually, if you're already receiving more than Channel 1 and 0, you're already subscribed. You just need to drive around for an hour or two and then you'll be getting all the channels. Follow the directions described on Channel 1, and you'll be OK in a little while.

Now, I'm no XM expert but I will agree that when my 3 month subscription expired I still received numerous channels besides 0 & 1. GotJazz?, could this be because my radio had been previously "subscribed"? Thus maybe the above gentleman's was also and requires a reset for one reason or another?

Should he call XM and ensure they have the dates correct and have it re-initialized? Definitely don't talk money because like mentioned above, you will loose your free three months...

Other than that - for info purposes, my 3 month XM subscription stopped during my 30 min commute. I called them up right then (cell phone) and signed up. My XM was back online within 10 minutes.

Good luck

Even when the XM period expires, you will still get 5-6 channels and they will rotate among all. This way XM teases you with "what you're missing". So, even if you aren't subscribed you will get a few channels and they will rotate around....sort of like a marketing ploy to get you to sign up for all of them.

Cool

thanks for all the feedback. called xm yesterday and activated the head unit over the phone. turned the radio on, tuned to channel 01, and after 20 minutes all the channels came in. a couple of points i'd like to share:

1. based on the radio id the xm rep should be able to tell it is a built-in unit that comes with promotions

2. the rep actually asked me "do you know how many trials you have?" and "would you lilke to subscribe now or try it first?" - i thought both were dumb questions.

have a nice day everyone!
