Question on Tint...

I can't seem to find any discussion on this. or my searching ability sux.

We have the rearview visors that auto dims at night to reduce glares when idiots behind us drive with high beams.

With auto dimming, visibility become very poor unless you switch off the dimming in which case you can get temporarily blinded by said idiot behind you.

How much darker is it with the rear windshield being tinted? Do you guys drive with the auto dimming off? Or you don't notice much difference?

Also, does anybody know if there are aftermarket auto dimming side mirrors for the 3G? I have that on my X5 and it helps a lot.

I think with the rearview window tinted it helps the mirror auto dimming to not have to work all as much or all the time. I haven't noticed anything different as far as being hard to see out the back window. Like I said, perhaps it's just not working since the tint blocks some of the light. As far as dimming side mirrors, never heard of them, but that would be an awesome feature.

^^hmmm..never thought about the level if dimness. I thought it was either off or becomes dim at one level. I'll have to check it out tonight to see if it gets dimmer as it gets brighter.

Thanks

I have 10% tint all the way around and when a vehicle pulls up behind me at night all I can see are the two dots where the headlights are. Everything else goes really black because the mirror auto adjusts. This usually is not a problem though as I can tell where cars are behind me. At first I just left the auto-dim off because the tint was so dark I didn't need it. But eventually I turned it on because why let such a cool feature go to waste?

I keep autodimming on and it's pretty dark back there. And I've only got 35%.

lol are you kidding me? ofcourse there isn't a reason to use it when you have close to pitch black.

Thanks guys...I'm sure you guys know the answer to this as well.

What is the tint level from factory of SUV's? I'm considering that percentage cause I don't want it too dark in the back.

I believe to match the factory tint on SUVs/Trucks you have to come pretty close to 20%
