question regarding CPO?

What is the standard for CPO cars regarding tread wear? As in what is the minimum tread a car can have to be sold as CPO? I bought my car in February with 30k miles on it. I have put about 8k miles since feb maybe less and I took it in for a minor service at anotherAcura dealer and the guy said I had 1 second of tread wear left. My question is did I get screwed by the dealer who sold me the car? Should I go complain?

not sure if CPO covers the tires. go ask the dealer you bought it from.

You can ask the dealer, but that is considered normal wear and since they have like 40K on them you want them off the car for the winter. They typically do not replace the tires unless they do not meet the minimum requirement.

The tpically inspect the car. inspection is just 1/2 of it since what do they replace?

Would you expect any part with only 1/3 of its life replaced?

That would mean tires.... How about fluids, brake pads, rotors, wiper blades, battery, clutch...

Sure you pay more for a cpo but are you getting more. I am not slamming acura on this but the inspection is just that, an inspection. Sure you get a warranty but that is really what you are paying for here.

When anyone looks at a cpo car they should take a close look at everything. I would/have asked for the tires to be replaced and fluids changed to seal the deal.

yea i hear you my main question is that if 6k miles would wear out 4/32 of tread? minimum specs for CPO is 5/32. i dont mind getting new tires but i just wanna make sure i did wear them down and not that i was screwed by the dealer

38k on the stock tires is pretty good. That's the price you pay for getting a used car.

Hate to say this, but I would think during your inspection it would have been recognized that the tires didn't have many miles remaining, and therefore you would have asked the dealer for a change. Too late now.

Acura Certified
11. Tires (minimum tread depth 5/32 across tread width)

If the tire life is 35,000 miles, then hypothectically 4/32 would wear at about 12,000 miles.

Ask the dealer for some comsideration with new tires, but in my experience I think you'll find that it will be less of a hassle, and less costly, just to buy the tires you want and be done with it. Get 245/45-17.

When I purchased my TL, I saw that 3 of the rims were marked. Complained, and as they had another TL with new tires and 4 perfect rims, I asked to have them switched, which they did.

in the end it would be tough to prove that the tires did not have enough tread at the sale. Being in your early 20s they might think you were driving the car harder, yet there are many 40 and 50+ that are worse on the car than some 20 somethings.

Anyone that buys a car with 30K should always look at the rubber. If they are worn negoticate the price and get what you want on the car after the sale. Brakes are harder since you cannot easily see them but the are probably 40% gone at that point. I know some people get only about that from brakes. My last set of acura brakes went 75,000 miles.

thanks, i guess the wear seems about right if they are stock tires... i'll just save up for some new ones, since i still have 1/32 left. but i guess its the price you pay to drive a TL right...
