Question about key replacement
Question about key replacement
I found it interesting how after reading the "what was missing with your TL" thread a lot others were missing a set of keys. My TL only came with one set, and its the memory set 2. I'm looking to get the switchblade key for my memory set 1.
I've done my research and Heeltoe sells the complete package which is great. I also found another ebay vendor that sells it as well (http://www.ebay.com/itm/07-08-ACURA-...item1e63e41ac1) but after reading the description from both sellers, they require you to SEND in your key to have the immobilizer chip replaced. Now I'm not the only one lurking around with only one set of keys so technically if one was to go about with this route, they would have to send in their only set of keys. So pretty much you can't use your car until you receive the new key back. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The other route would be to buy the key and have the dealer program it for you. I've search the forums a bit and found people reprogramming their key fob; that does not mean they are programming their new key right? I would still have to get the new key programmed to the car and that's something I cannot do, it would require an Acura dealership?
I want to avoid the stealership since I had my bad share of events with the one near me (Paragon) unless someone else knows any Acura/Honda certified dealerships within the Queens/Brooklyn area of New York City that does wonders without burning a hole in my wallet.
Greatly appreciate any feedback.

If you buy your switchblade key from Heeltoe (GREAT choice!), you DO NOT have to send in any key.
Have them send you a switchblade key ready to program (immobilizer, and keyfob) and cut.
If I'm correct, you're missing your Driver 1 set of key/keyfob.
Just buy the Driver 1 switchblade from heeltoe and bring it to your dealer to have them cut it (should be free to cut) and program the immobilizer in it (cost varies from $50-$150).
I paid $55 to get my immobilizer programmed.
When you get your immobilizer programmed at your dealer you have to bring all keys in.
Yes, it's required to program your immobilizer at the dealer.
I heard the machine to program the immobilizer costs thousands of dollars.
Your car WILL NOT start if you don't program your immobilizer on the switchblade key.
Programming the switchblade keyfob is something you can do yourself.

Cool, thanks for the info. Guess I'll call up Paragon and ask for a quote on programming the key. So pretty much my full cost would be the key from heeltoe for $120 plus the cost of the programming hopefully not in the $150 range...
I doubt Paragon Acura will cut for free...

They don't need to be the ones to cut it; any locksmith can do that. It literally takes 30 seconds. Even if they charge, it won't be more than $10, which is what my local stealership does. And if you know how to negotiate, it's probably going to be pretty easy to erase whatever they think they can get from you for cutting it.
I had your issue. I found some dude in Cali who had a brand new sealed key from Honda. He had it posted on eBay for $85 or $90. I sent him an email with an offer $60. He went for it. Got my key. Went to Acura of Brooklyn (sorry but fuck the jerk offs in Paragon. I've had my own share of bad experience with them along with a number of others including ppl from Azine) Do yourself a favor and don't give your business to Paragon ever lol. Anyway, I paid if I'm not mistaken $ 80 or $150 to cut n program.

Called up Paragon Acura, charges $125 for cut and program.
Brooklyn Acura charges even more, $170 for both
Wow, one of the rare times something is cheaper in Canada LOL
My closest Acura dealer is about 45 minutes away.
I ordered my key and keyfob there, and when they arrived, they obviously called me to tell me they came in.
Lucky for me, I knew someone who lives by that Acura dealer, and he picked it up for me that morning. He just called me while he was there and told me the dealer needed my VIN number.
I told him my VIN, and the next weekend I went to his place and picked it up.
He had the key all cut for me and ready to use (immobilizer not programmed yet).
Now I'm thinking, they didn't charge me to cut it, but what if my friend covered the cost to get it cut but didn't say anything

Yeah, stay away from Paragon Acura/Honda. My cousin bought a used car there and many problem arised and they were very unprofessional.
Also stay away from Bklyn Acura (Plaza mall), long story short, they couldn't find a car despite vouching that it was there.
I would advise Curry Acura. I bought my used CPO TL there 2 weeks ago and their service was spot on. My salesman was very professional, followed up and called after I bought the vehicle and such. I can't vouch for their service dept but seeing how they are with the sales dept, I wouldn't put it pass them.
It is a 30 min drive from Queens (and I live in Queens) but is worth it if you are getting quality service.
PS: read your thread about your problems with your car, sorry to hear that. Hope everything worked out.

Definitely will contact Curry Acura once I get a chance. Really wanna get this switchblade key mod but its actually more expensive than I thought...

BTW for anyone who has the switchblade key, just wanna ask does the programming of the key fob portion work with the second presses? Like after I program the switchblade key, if I press the unlock button, then press and hold it all windows and moon roof should open.
