Question about brake calipers.

Just a question that I was hoping someone may know the answer
to - if I am missing something obvious, I apologize. I have a 2004 TL (Anthracite/Ebony with Navigation - 5AT). The brake calipers on the car are standard/generic silver with no marking or labels. When I was in the dealership, the two floor models had black calipers with 'ACURA' in white lettering - what model(s) do such calipers appear on or how can I get them. Both cars were obviously not A-Spec and neither the service department nor the sales representative had any idea how to obtain them. Kinda' led me to think they were intended for floor use only .....

Help please. Am I missing something ?

simple..

If you see the front caliper has ACURA logo on it (Paint it in Black with white letters), it means 6MT.
If it standard silver kind, it's 5AT.

Is it possible to get the calipers on the 5AT replaced with the 6-speed version ...... guess it would be somewhat pricey ......

The individual upgrade to Brembo's should be available in the near future (It may even be available now). The fact that the Brembo's came on the 6speeds for no extra charge almost had me buying a 6sp even though it would have been a pain for business. Looks like a future mod for all of us interested. Expected price around $1K

I don't think so... for now...

It's the future option. I believe you have to upgrade/modify brake system, plus the spare tire.

Also,

If you see the black brake, it's 6MT.

The silver one is 5AT.

The silver plus the read edge of pads is 5AT with A-Spec.

From everything I've read, the A-spec package includes Brembo's for the AT's. Is that not accurate?

I thought the same way before, but I realized it's wrong after checking cars in dealers.

A-Spec apparently comes with high performance pad (with red color edge) for 5AT model, meanwhile, the spare tire is the smaller size, which cannot fit in chunky Brembo.

6MT -> T145/70R17 106M Bridgestone
5AT -> T135/80R16 101M Firestone

The TL A-SPEC kit will include:

High performance, track-tuned shocks and springs
Lightweight 18x8.5 alloy wheels
High performance Yokohama 235/40VR18 95W tires
Performance brake pads (automatic transmission-equipped models)
Aero kit featuring front air dam, chin spoiler, side skirts and choice of deck lid or rear wing spoiler
A-SPEC steering wheel
A-SPEC badging
