Question about the auto shift
I just bouhgt an acura TL and it had 10 miles on it. My mother decided to drive it and she ended up accidentely pushing the shifter into the manual mode. The plus and minus part. And I think she drove to the store that way. So probably in first gear. Should I be concerned about this. Wll this have a negative effect on the car since the engine is not broken in yet. I am kind of worried. A response would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, she drove in second if she kept it in manual mode because it auto-shifts to second.
Second, it shouldn't have hurt anything other than using lots of gas.

should be okay. you would notice the deceleration if you let the gas pedal if it's in second gear. you don't want to rev up the tach too high when the engine is spanking new.

Question
She drove to the store and back and the speed limit reaches 40 on the way there. I was wondering how many RPM's it would go up to. Also are you sure it shifts to second gear after a while. I was wondering how many rpms would it go up to in first before it shifted into second gear.

Safety Car
At a stop the TL will automatically (by default) go into 1st gear. As jdb8805 stated, it will automatically shift up to 2nd gear as you accelerate. I'll have to check but I'm guessing around 2000-3500 rpms. You have no control shifting from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st unless the car is stopped.
