Question Question about 6speed MT

I have owned my 06 MT for a couple of months now. I have about 2K miles on it. I recently have had a strange thing happen to me that I have never had before driving a MT. When stopped at a stop light I put it into first gear with my foot on the clutch, when the light has turned green the clutch slips like crazy and the engine revs like crazy to. Its like the clutch wont catch. This has happened twice. Has anyone else experienced this in their MT?

Stupid question, do you think you are possible not quite in gear? I would doubt thats the case, otherwise it would seem like the clutch is sticking, i would have the dealer look at it?

Never experienced that. The only thing that I can think is what the poster above me said. If the shifter is not fully in gear...that could happen. I'm sure you would have recognized it the second time around though...so I dont know...

Question

No it was in first gear, Im sure of that. I dont know if the clutch was slipping because the RPMs were too high. Will the clutch slip when the RPMs are way high and not catch the fly wheel? Maybe some kind of VSA control thing going on maybe????????

I have flogged my 6sp pretty hard...you would most def. know if it catches!!!
So I would have to say your clutch is not engaging? Do you smell anything burning??

How do you then get it to go...press in on the clutch and re-release it and then it works??? if so it's sticking...see dealer?

Like the other poster... you can not get too high of RPM for the clutch not to catch... Once I dropped it at a high RPM and got wheel hop like crazy..

Another question... did you let your foot off the clutch? You might have been pressing down on it enough for it to slip... if not.. then you got a problem..

If what you describe is accurate and factual (not doubting you), you most definitely have a problem and a serious one at that. Get that car in asap to have this checked out. I can assure you that this is NOT normal in any way.

Under no circumstances should this occur if everything is working as designed unless you're the one doing something wrong and from your description, I don't see where you might be screwing things up. However, you do lack some knowledge of a couple of the systems in your car (not a flame.. just an observation). VSA has absolutely nothing to do with the clutch assembly.

The key to your story is the smell. A burning clutch has a very distinct odor. If I had to wager a guess at the problem, I'd say you could be really low on hydraulic clutch fluid, or you could have a clutch master or slave cylinder failing.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

this does sound serious and you should deff see the dealer, i mean with my 6spd even if i redline and drop the clutch it catchs, the only thing i can think of is ur clutch not fully engaging, i mean are yo reving it all the wau with ur foot half way on the pedal? or some sort of liquid leaked on you flywheel(highly doubt that tho) deff see the dealer. good luck
