purpose of in car info

Anyone here ever figure out why I would want to know my average speed? it must be calculated by including idle time. Also what is the time in reference to? Is it how many hours my car has been running? and again why do I want to know this, would it not be more for the mechanics?

Just curious if I'm missing something here

My previous car - 300m special had tire pressure monitors in all the tires including the full size spare (with aluminum rim) in the trunk. Now that is very useful information. The sensors just didn't tell you the tire was low in pressure, it actuallly told you the pressure and would remind you, almost nagging you to fill them if it ran for some time with low pressure.

You probably forgot to send your letter to Acura telling them not to include the average speed function on your car. Personally, I didn't want the odometer, because why would I need to know how far I've driven in the car?

There are many things on your vehicle that probably don't make any sense to you, but they do to the guy that bought one right after you did. Mass production requires a baseline production model that is duplicated. That keeps costs down and allows us all to afford our vehicles.

If you want tire pressure, change to the tire pressure function in the MID and hit select. This will show you, in real time, the pressure at your four corners.

Did MPG change? (I would hope not, however, crazier things have been designed)

Hey Streese,

I understand your point and I accept it, but you still did not explain to me what I would use it for? Maybe it tells a technician the type of driving I do.

As to tire pressure monitors, My 2005 TLwith Navi does not have them.

For me personally, I compare my average speed with my mileage. If I only get 20 miles to the gallon, then I anticipate my average speed is somewhere in the 20-25 mile per hour. If I get 25-30 miles to the gallon, I anticpate my average MPH at about 30-40. If I was averaging 30-40MPH and I got 20MPG, I would know there was a problem.

As far as tire pressure, you didn't specify that you had a 2005. My 2006 has it. Hope this helps.

Steve

My guess, is that avg speed is more useful to people on long road trips, if they want to know the average speed they've been travelling (per day for example).

Its not really necessary. What I can't understand is how I can average 38MPH for 500 miles, and get 29MPG. Then my wife can get the same AVG MPH, and only get 23MPG. She must be racing.

Exactly!!!! Drove back and forth from Philly to Boston on Thurs and Fri.. Average speed is a fun toy, helps to pass the time, and does give some neat info.

In the '06 TL, the actual PSI of each wheel is posted in the MID. Once you get to the TPMS screen, hit the select button and that info should display.

Seriously. Whenever I drive the G35 to work and I meet my wife for dinner, she floors the TL at every single green light when I'm following her. Sometimes I wonder if it's just when I'm around, or if she does that all the time. Funny thing is tho is that she doesn't do that when I drive the pontiac and meet up with her for dinner.
