The compitition comes out swinging!!!
I was recently browsing the NYTimes auto section and boy Acura needs to step it up. The new 07 models from Lexus and infiniti are raising the bar. I have an 2005 AM/Ebony AT 3G TL and I thoroughly enjoy it. The 04 3rd Gen TL caught the competition off guard with all the jam packed amenities and had them scrabbling.
However within the last couple of years I feel like the competition, primarily Lexus and infiniti are leaving Acura in the dust. For example the new Lexus IS models are a smash. Infiniti continues to tweak the G35 model to be a true "BMW beater." I mean the new lexus flagship the LS now offers a V8 hybrid 430hp, technology laden sedan, that according to the article had BMW and MB executives scrabbling "to convene strategy meetings." Now that's a true flagship!
Even the new G35 4door sedan looks sexy as hell compared to the stodgy predecessor, almost close to the sex appeal of the current coup. Coupled with the fact that infiniti has upgraded the tacky interior that plagued the most recent models and they've uped the ante with a 3.5-liter V-6, now with 300-plus horsepower and a red line of 7,500 r.p.m.
I'm a big Honda fan; first car was a Civic in high school, car in college was the beloved Legend (93), loved the hell out of my brother's RL (97), and just got the 3rd Gen TL after graduating from professional school. But the caveat is once I finish my residency training, and enjoy my current TL for the next 4-5yrs, if Acura is not class leading or at least keeping up, I am defecting to Lexus or infiniti.
I would send the link but the website requires a subscription and that might be a hassel. What do you guys thing?
p.s., forget about the blue bloods (MB or BMW); their entry level, I feel, are for status mongers, and the higher classes are plagued with too much technical difficulties. My dad has a 7-series; it's in the shop every other weekend (what a piece of expensive junk). By the way the 3series and C-class are for yuppies w/ pleated khaki pants and Gap polo shirts
