They are called the BSM (Body Side Molding) aka Uglies....

they are used to prevent door dings to your car....

I'm pretty sure that they're there to protect your car from getting door dings/dents.

they are normally held on by double sided tape or emblem/molding glue. not so bad getting the moldig off its the stuff that holds it on thats the pain most of the time

all you need is a hair dryer and dental floss....

use the hair dryer to heat up the dual sided tape and dental floss between the uglies and the car body....

if some tape is left over, just use some goo-gone

I'd use something a little more durable than floss. After snapping 5 or 6 different strings of floss on the first BSM, I got out a plastic gift/credit card and used that instead. 10x easier than the floss, IMO.
