Purchased a blue TL
Purchased a blue TL
2004 Blue TL, 150K for $1000 Canadian. No huge accident besides a light that got replaced by insurance, so nothing mechanically related. Leather is a bit worn compared to the $14k ones, but that's what I get for the price. I made a topic earlier about pre-purchase worries like high RPM at low speeds, but that was my fault for putting it on manual and not knowing it. There is a few other things that suck though, the Navigation system is some after market bull-crap made by a company named "alpine", I may have to change that back to original as it does not indicate any useful information such as my a/c status, radio, CD info and all that. There is a cover under the glove compartment that hides alot of wires that fell out. Does not seem to have any broken plastic, I don't know how to make it lock in properly, I can only make it stay temporarily... The engine makes a strange whisper like sound when I take it above 70mph. However, this is my first car, I am quite a noob... so... I have a lot to learn masters... I may post a pictures soon as soon as I make more money, I had to sell my old one to get this car (I'm kidding).
1000 Canadian? you mean 10,000 canadian? good deal if you got it for 1k, post pic whe you got a chance, our TL navi system DVD drive are made by Alpine so its not after market. It seem like you have alot of work to do. I would like to say congrat on your pick up and post pics when you have a chance.

See that small screen located above the air vents? That's where all information is displayed. The NAVI doesn't display AC status.
Also seeing how yours came with a aftermarket navi called "Alpine" chances are your car didn't come with the OEM navigation. The OEM navigation will cost roughly $2,000 and that doesn't include labor of getting someone else to install it. If you can tackle it yourself than go for it, but that is a task not even I would want to attempt myself.
You need to upload pictures for us to see. Especially of your interior so we can see that "Alpine" aftermarket navigation system you speak of.
Thanks for that pic man. Yeah, I will upload pictures as soon as I have a camera. So far what I can tell you is that it looks nothing like that. It's strange because the original owner went through all the trouble to get a system that even has a working backup camera, but did not show anything about system status. It would be cool if I could get that screen above by it self and replace the clock so I can at least know what my AC settings are. However, otherwise, how much would an original instrument panel cost? Where would I buy these parts? I have a mechanic friend, but he lives far away and needs to be bribed every time he works. I may also require a service manual as well.
Congrats

well kiki when you dealing with TL Navi it kinda pain in the a$$ because everything integrate into one system, one computer. So it will be a pain trying to replace everything instead I recommend you take a pic and describe each problem you having with and we will trying to help you out.
Picture:
The picture is really not helpful, but it shows you that that is a non-navi model done with an aftermarket navi. It also has the non-navi clock, which does not display air conditioner info or anything useful besides the time. I decided at this point it may be a good idea to get a replacement clock that is on the navi models, but I'm not sure if that will help...

I found the guy responsible for inspiring the previous owner, and I currently have the exact same navigation system as described by this topic:

At this point I am thinking of buying the original non-nav display, it only costs $40 at my local junk yard with the totaled Acura TL, where as the OEM is something like $200. Too bad the back up camera attached to my trunk will be completely useless lol...

let me help you out with pics.

looks like the previous owner had play around alot with the car, yes that Alpine is not factory navi unit, its up to you if you want the regular none navi piece put back, I would recommend you do that. About the leather there is nothing you can do about it unless you want to spend $1200 on the cover and you have to take the seat out from the vehicle. The only thing you can do with the seat is make sure you clean it with conditioner (other member recommend with water base instead of alcohol case).

Nice, I rarely see this color. Hop on the group buy for the a-spec kit: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...802311&page=37

^^ I don't think adding a stock body kit will make your insurance go up.
But anyways try leatherique rejuvenator oil on the seats.
Also congrats on the new car and having the same color combo as me!

that is some bull shit man, is it a random inspection or do they let you schedule it. If you can schedule it and its at no more than like twice a year I would do whatever you want to the car and just take it back to stock every time. I mean the lip kit can be taken on and off in a couple hours, if you had coil overs you could adjust them to stock height in an hour, and if you had rims you could toss the stockies back on for the inspection. Other than that the inspector won't be able to notice anything. Exhaust might be another story but if it was me I would try to figure something out... or switch insurance companies. Just because you care about how your car looks and drives doesn't mean you race it or are more likely to get in an accident. For me it makes me less likely. Every time I think about doing something stupid i think about the thousands of dollars and hours i have spent on mods that my insurance won't cover.
That sounds depressing. Y'all have pretty good nugs up there, so maybe that's the trade off? Haha jk but foreal that is weak.
