Is this purchase worth the price??

I was looking at a TL over the weekend and it has a right front fender hit. Seller is asking $11,500 for it. It's a 6sp manual with NAV. I really want the car but I don't want to be killed with repair costs. Let me know what you guys think....

What year and how many miles are on it? You're going to need a new headlight, fender and front bumper looks like. As long as there's no frame damage, I'd get it. See if he'll take 11. My 2 cents.

what year and mileage? it looks like a good project if you ask me. shouldnt be more than 2000 if you replace the headlight, fender, and bumper, but thats assuming theres nothing else damaged, like the frame etc.

or go the extra mile and convert it to a type-s front.

heres a parts list with price if you wanna see what the new parts is gonna cost you

Def a new headlight but you might be able to fix the fender. People are always selling headlights though.

The bumper you could just upgrade to the type s.

Miles are an important factor.

I asked if he can do it for 11K and he said 11,500 is the best he can do.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll pick it up when the owner says he has the title in hand, which will be more than likely the upcoming weekend.

I looked at some fenders on ebay but not sure if those were ok to use or not, as opposed to the website spicyneedle provided. here is what i'm talking about -

LOL sorry man. It's way too late and I've been reading tons of threads to prepare in case I buy. I'll ask the guy on eBay about the part and it is going to a body shop

bring the car to your shop and ask them what you'll need to replace. then try to find those big parts for cheaper by craigslist or ebay. good luck with your project dude!

I think I'll do that. The obvious (fender and light) I will just go ahead and buy now. The bumper based on the pics looks like it can be saved so I won't buy that just yet. The thing I'm most concerned about is the paint and labor. I still cannot fucking believe the lady told me to take it to MAACO or some shit like that. I knew right then and there she is a POS dishonest, unethical cunt.

So this deal looks like it's going to fall through. The lady and her son that owns the car are just too much for me to deal with right now. 4 weeks now since they've posted the car up for sale and I still can't get anything out of them. I did check out another 04 over the weekend and it looks twice as good but also has twice as many miles (114,000). He wants 13,500 and we somewhat agreed on $12,000 but I told him I'd have to list out what needs to be done to the car to consider buying it for 12K. Let me know your thoughts -

water pump/timing belt/thermostat/drive belt needs to be replaced
clutch more than likely needs to be replaced
car needs new mats (it doesn't have any)

I wanted to offer him 11K but I'm not sure he'll go for that. Let me know what you guys think - KBB says it's worth a little below 13k. I don't have any photos of it but believe me, it looks like a well kept car.

I think the price is still kinda of high for those miles unless all service records are up to date and necessary maintenance has already been done for a car with 114k on it.

I dont know where your located but a quick search on the new york craigslist I found an 04 with nav and 61k miles for 14.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/cto/1203801982.html

Best of luck.

the first one you posted looks like a good prospect, however the frame may be damaged by the driver door since it looks like the fender and frame moved back a little by the photo, as well laterally. If it has 65K and you can get it for 12, its good if the frame isn't damaged too badly and frame straightening costs less them 2K (get an estimate first). You can get a light for around 200 and a fender for about 300, then paint and labor.

the second one with 113K will cost you quite a bit:
New Waterpump/timingbelt is the big one, then you have misc servings and then you face the prospect of other damaged things like axles, halfshafts, etc.

I'm not sure if the frame was damaged by the door. The door was very easy to open and close and no signs of metal to metal grinding. Someone backed up into it so I don't think the damage is too serious. It's the people that are actually selling that's actually pissing me off - I can't get anything out of them, even after driving 800 miles that day to go look at it and telling them that I want it etc. I even bought the cash with me and they weren't even enthused to say the least.

The 114K one looks a lot better than the 65K one. I checked the drive axles and they looked brand spanking new, along with the tires and interior. It was definitely a well kept car. The only thing I saw on it that was a little strange is light corrosion on the bolts like it was in adverse weather. The carfax said it lived in Chicago for a while so that may explain why a light white build-up on the non-ferrous metalic parts.

My mechanic said he would change the timing belt and water pump for me at a decent price. He did on my 94 legend and it has taken me everywhere without issue. Beyond that I don't think there is anything else that is overly major that I can't handle myself. Right now he won't budge from 12K

I bought my 04 for $12k almost a year ago.. so yeah.. you're paying WAY too much.. plus look at the nasty brake dust on those wheels.. that TL has all the indications of abuse. Don't buy a high mileage TL (over 100k) unless the owner has a full maintenance history with all the recommended fluid changes documented and the 105k service (timing belt, water pump, tensioner, drive belts) performed.

I just spoke to the owner of the car with 65K today. Turns out they got the title but unwilling to drive 200 fucking miles to meet me 40% of the way. I just told them to fuck off. They wouldn't even get an estimate on paper for me. I will make sure I let this and every acura forum who this shit-bag is so he never sells that car.

Thanks. I fucking HATE when people don't follow through on their word. The 114K one looks WAAAY better than the 65K one and honestly, I'd prefer buying the 114K one. The timing belt/water pump I'm not even concerned about because my mechanic will take care of that in a few hours.
