Proposal: ATF change method for '07-'08, NOT 3x3
Proposal: ATF change method for '07-'08, NOT 3x3
i don't know what 04-06 tranny plumbing looks like so for now it's for 07-08 including both base and type s
While I was installing transmission cooler, and saw again today doing motor mounts, are the banjo fittings that give ATF (tranny->rad) and the ones that put back into the tranny (rad->tranny)
i know push circulation is not supposed to be done so.. let's say,
1. get TWO 5 gal jugs, and fill one with about 3-4gal of new fluid (or more if you're rich(er), i don't know)
2. using some leftover tranny fluid hose, connect the inward banjo (into tranny) into the pool of fresh fluid, and the other (outward) in the empty jug.
3. have someone monitor fluid level to see if the fresh fluid runs out.
4. start engine, go through PRND123454321NDRP (car is on jack stand)
5. keep doing 4 until fresh fluid runs out and/or COMES out of the out line. and turn off the engine.
yes it will be a little messy because the hoses are filled with fluids, but i'd rather use a couple more shop towels than crawl under car 3 times as opposed to 1.
would this work/has anyone done this?
**although, i won't be able to clean the magnet in the drain plug, i think magnefine filter will do the job**

The trans pump forces ATF from the trans to the cooler circuit, i.e., to the cooler/heater inside the radiator, through the radiator ATF cooler, and back to the trans.
So, the (outward) hose will fill the empty jug with the ATF from inside the transmission. Nothing will 'pull' (or suck) the fresh ATF from the other jug of fresh fluid, the trans will run dry, and burn up.
Please, why do you think that this can possibly work? The trans pump sucks only from the bottom of the transmission sump (bottom of trans), not from the cooler line. I am unaware of any auto-trans that works any other way than that just described, certainly not any Honda trans.
That is why those who attempt something similar to this idea, must manually pour fresh ATF back into the trans, as the trans pumps out the old fluid into a bucket.
This idea sucks, to be kind.
