Pressure Switches

Just wanted some feedback about the pressure switches since I see a lot of talk on here about them. I have an '07 TL with 135,000 and my transmission still shifts like new. :::knocking on wood::: Is this preventative maintenance or something to do if you feel the transmission starting to act up? Thanks for any feedback.

The pressure switches are beyond proven. I rebuilt transmissions and did the advanced troubleshooting and drivability. One thing I learned is what most call good is actually horrible. I've driven cars where the transmission was about to fail and the owner thought it shifted great. I bought my TL brand new and it shifts better than new with both the good fluid and new switches. On that note it's got the beginning of a bump shift (what some consider a good shift but in reality it's bad) so it's switch time again, this will be set number 3 and worth every penny. New TLs did not have great shifts, I would shoot for better than new.

A related question: are there any aftermarket switches available? I haven't found any nor seen any mentioned in threads.

By the time you feel something going on with your transmission, most times the damage is already done. Replace the switches before you notice anything going on under there. $120 of your money and an hour and a half of your time is the investment.

How many miles between changing the pressure switches do you recommend ?

Searching the forums I've seen every 45,000 miles...do you agree or think maybe less than that ?

I think time is more important than mileage. They get out of calibration because the diaphragm gets less flexible and they trigger at a different pressure than they're supposed to. It's likely age and contact with the ATF that causes this. Since they're in contact with ATF regardless of whether or not it's running or moving I would say to with time, 2-3 years.

The other factor is heat, and mileage would speed that up somewhat. Looking around here, the people that have felt the big before and after differences were more consistent with time but some had low mileage and some high mileage.

It's just a guess but I would plan on 2-3 years regardless of mileage. That's about how long it takes before I notice the change in shift quality. One other thing that makes me believe it's time based is mine have started to go bad at about the same time interval but in the beginning I was doing 35k a year and now for the past couple years I do around 2k miles a year at most.

I didn't have time at that point to read 14 pages. Sorry. With that said, I do appreciate your help and I will read it.
