Redesigned Performance Luxury Sedan Shatters Sales Record Its First Month on Sale
TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Record sales of the all-new 2004 TL drove October Acura sales to 14,731, a 21.7 percent increase compared to last year, Acura announced today. In its first month on sale, the dramatically redesigned TL sold 6,031 units, eclipsing the previous October record of 5,793 set in 2001. The new TL features a 270-horsepower engine, track-tuned suspension, and an assortment of cutting edge technology including the first standard DVD-Audio surround sound system.
"We knew demand for the all-new TL would be strong because of the sporty new styling, added performance, available 6-speed manual, and vast array of new features and technology," said **** Colliver, executive vice president, auto sales. "These early results will give us great momentum throughout the rest of the year and should provide Acura with a new all-time sales record this year."
The MDX luxury SUV continued to sell well in the competitive luxury SUV segment. Up 10 percent for the month, October MDX sales of 4,936 set a new monthly record and pushed year-to-date Acura light truck sales to 46,553, up 7.4 percent compared to last year.
The new 2004 TSX sports sedan sold 1,758 units, pushing year-to-date sales to 15,336, and surpassing its first year sales goal with two months still remaining.

I don't think 6 speeds make much fof a dent in a company's overall sales numbers. This option will attract some of the enthusiast crowd that normally stays away from Auto/FWD configurations. I'd be interested to see what % of 6 speeds they end up selling. I would have bought one in a second but the wife can't drive stick

Hey Ryan,
I would buy the 6 speed if I were you and tell your wife you ordered an auto. when the car arrives...Ooops, looks like I bought the manual by accident honey... haha. When she tells you sleep on the couch at least you'll be there for a worthwhile purpose, haha!
In all seriousness, I taught my girlfriend to drive stick in an hour. All it takes is a nice big parking lot and patience. The easiest way to teach her was to have the car stopped on a slight incline. I had her "feel" the clutch grab slightly while her right foot was still on the brake. I think that took away some of the fear of rolling backwards at a stop sign in first gear.
Anyways, I hope she learns, and I hope you get the 6 speed. Good Luck!

But SLVR, would you teach your wife to drive in your new, $35k toy? That played a factor in my NOT buying a 6MT.
I KNEW this car would sell like hotcakes! Everywhere I go, people just stare at it. In awe.

I think the numbers will come down dramatically after all othe the pre-order people get their cars. Alot of these people have been waiting for this car for months and it's like having 3-4 months of car sales at one time.

Haha...
Yeah, I love the manuals, but maybe next time. I end up doing quite a bit of stop and go driving in the crappy Boston traffic, and a stick just makes my morning coffee more difficult.
I guess I figured the amount of time I really get to enjoy it (10-15%) doesn't make up for other 85% of time I spend just "driving".
No, I would NOT teach the wife to drive a stick in my new car.
I had to get an auto anyway, that was the deal I made with her. I am trading in a 7 month old 03 Accord, I had to give in so that she'd be ok with buying it She isn't too thrilled about the average amount of time I own a car.
